Linking Accounts

Is there any advantages over Steam or even in game if we link our Steam to a Square Enix account? I want to keep my accounts to the minimum, avoiding everything not needed.

No there isn't any advantage. I'm pretty sure they just use it to collect stats from the game on their website here.
