why does saving the savegame takes a long time
has anybody have an idea, why saving intermediate state cost a lot of time. The game suddenly stops for a big couple of seconds?

My PC Windows 7 is very fast (Intel 3770), Graphic card is very fast (GTX 670) have a fast internet connectivity, but nevertheless saving is very slow.
On my slower laptop with Windows 8 this saving is ok without such big delay.

Is this caused, by firewall or scanner McAfee?.

Any hint would be great.
thanks

Hm, normally it needs one second.
I would try to switch off SteamCloud. Maybe your PC has some problems to upload ur savegame to steam or something like that ?

Possibly McAffee, possibly the write speed of your Hard Drive, possibly the Steam Cloud.

Try disabling Steam Cloud and McAffee and playing long enough to save the game. Because the saving should be seamless; there should be no pause, especially not with your specs.

And let us know what your Hard Drive is. If it's a WD Caviar Green that could easily be the problem.

It isnt steam cloud, because the save files are on your computer, and only get uploaded/downloaded, to your drive when starting/quiting the game, so it wouldnt affect in game saving..

The very first thing that comes to mind is fragmented hard drive.

Save files are 135 kB - it can't be the disk speed that is the issue. Uploads to the cloud shouldn't be done in a way that interrupts gameplay, and it appears synchronization is done when not playing, but you can test that part by quitting steam, disabling your internet connection and then restarting steam, or just the game. That should eliminate network lag problems.

Or you could just wait 2 seconds...

Or you could fix what is obviously a bug of some sort. The game is not supposed to hang for two seconds. If it is, that's a bug and should be fixed, not ignored.

Ignoring it is the poor man's workaround. You'd be surprised how many people ignore BSODs, error messages, and computer crashes instead of seeking help. These are the same people that end up losing all function in their computer and end up paying through the nose for a new one instead of fixing the one they have.

Ahem. Please don't talk to me like I am some sort of new idiot to PC's or PC gaming.

I haven't had a bsod since Win 95, so can we now move on here?

Obviously I have misunderstood the OP as all I see is someone who is complaining about his game not updating the cloud once he has finshed his game session, which amounts to 2 seconds. If this is incorrect then fine - perhaps more clarity would have been good in the OP.

If I have misunderstood here I certainly don't appreciate being talked down to by the likes of yourself, thankyou.

1. I dont think he was intending to insult you either, no need to get all defensive.
2. The 2 second hangtime is MID-GAME so it is something that should be fixed. I gather you misunderstood it as being after or before the game. Though its very hard to determine whats wrong, as like practically NOONE else has experienced this, so we're kindof at a loss as to how to fix it.

The OP is obviously clear enough for everyone else to come to the correct conclusion. You came to the wrong conclusion twice, and I corrected you.

I actually made the assumption you understood the OP's clearly established point. This was apparently a mistake as it overestimated your understanding of the situation.

I talked down to you because you were making a really silly argument. Now I know that your argument wasn't silly, you just didn't understand the actual situation and were simply speaking from a position of ignorance.

Remind me again why your position or argument merits civility? You had neither the courtesy to read the OP well enough to understand their actual point nor the understanding to provide help. You provided completely uselss advice and ridiculed the OP based on your own ignorant misinterpretation of the OP's point.

So why should I NOT talk down to you? You've done nothing to earn my civility.

I'm terrible at being falsely polite. When I try to be falsely polite people call me patronizing so I don't even bother.

Civility shouldn't have to be earned... It's now clear you are doing it to try to take some moral high ground because of your lack of it.

How was I making an 'argument' when all I've posted is two short lines?

And by the way Mr Argumentative - the op saying "saving intermediate state" meant nothing to me with regard to in game saving as I didn't even know it occurred. I am sooooo sorry I am not as brilliant as every body else out there...

Oh you do patronising excellently.

You have a part in the escalation. I don't think Tuskan wanted to imply you in his BSOD comment, it was a generic comment why he felt 'ignoring' computer problems in general isn't a good idea.

I never noticed delays for intermediate saves either, and I don't have a fast HDD. Something is very off with his system I guess. Maybe a drive is failing? Or a controller?
I am no expert but checking the task-manager cpu usage for excessive kernel time during various disk related tasks is what I'd be looking for now
