Tomb Raider - What a Disappointment
Tomb Raider does not work. My computer has no issues & graphics card is fine. A waste of money. Steam should reimburse all with their hard earned money. What a disappointment!

If you explain your problem without details, no one can help you.

Sounds like someone who should be playing games on a console - just throwing out a post that says the game doesn't work and you think you should get your money back doesn't accomplish anything. It's easy to make a game that works on an Xbox or Playstaion - there's a limited number of configurations and you know pretty much what to expect. Everyone has a different PC setup - and you have to be willing to put in a little work if you want to get the best experience with any PC games.

If you seriously want some assistance, please provide your system information - cpu, gpu, installed ram, operating system, desktop or laptop system. Most of the problems have been figured out some time ago - but we have NO idea what you're trying to run the game on or even if your hardware is capable of actually handling Tomb Raider. So if you really want some help, you need to do more than complain...

Things to do:

Validate the game files.
Turn off exclusive fullscreen.
Try running the game at a lower setting like normal or high before trying ultra or ultimate.
Re-install DirectX from the redist sub-directory under the Tomb Raider folder.
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.
Make sure you have all of the patches & updates to the Windows OS.
Try running the game as DirectX 9 instead of DirectX 11 (has helped some people...)
Turn off any graphics utilities (like FRAPS or GeForce experience...)

I love trouble reports that have nothing helpful or constructive in them. A description of what exactly happens would also help.

I concur, mbradshaw93 - you go to the trouble of posting in a forum and then don't bother to provide any information - hard to take their comments seriously...

@GoBuck76, the topic starter indeed sounds like a whiny ♥♥♥♥♥♥ who plays video games primarily on consoles.

Hi GoBucks,
From reading through many forums here about my tomb raider issues - seems you are the most useful. I bought Tomb Raiders yesterday on Amazon for PC, downloaded (6 hours later) did all the Steam stuff and excitedly tried to play the game a few hours ago. All that happens in normal viewing is a pop up saying preparing to launch, then nothing, and if i hit it again it says not executable - already running. But it isn't. In full screen, if i click to play it goes to a blueish screen with light bubbles floating around but nothing else happens. My account says I have played for 4 minutes but I have yet to see anything. I hav tried most things i believe that i have read in the forums - any ideas? My details are :
cpu: intel inside core i7 -2360 QM CPU 2.00GHz,
gpu: Intel (R) HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA G-FORCE GT540M
installed ram: 8GB
operating system: WINDOWS 7
laptop toshiba notebook 64-bit

I would do your suggestions above but I am not sure how to do the following:
Turn off exclusive fullscreen.
Try running the game at a lower setting like normal or high before trying ultra or ultimate.
Re-install DirectX from the redist sub-directory under the Tomb Raider folder.
Try running the game as DirectX 9 instead of DirectX 11

Thanks very much - can't wait to play the game.

Just an update since i have looked at it a bit more. I can open up the steam full page part where you can flick between the play game, forum, achievments etc with music in the backgroun but when i click play game it goes to a only blue screen with the light bits floating about, then after 10 seconds or so it goes back to steam.

More update: have been working on this all day :( ...
Did the reinstall of the DirectX - didn't help
Have made sure setting in steam are 750p or whatever
Tried turning off norton firewall - no difference.
Also have tried the run as admin idea and verified cache etc

No Joy...when I click play, it pops up a quick preparing to launch, play and then the blue screen for about 10 seconds then closes again... arghh! Unbelievable really, i get it PC are not a one size fits all but i have downloaded star trek, pirates of the Caribbean and they played fine straight away... I realise tomb raider is a step up but it shouldn't be this painful!

Maybe I should swap to AMD from NVIDIA if it is easier enough...or if i had bought the game through steam instead of amazon would i be having these issues. Feel like throwing the thing at the window..

hollyg888 - to get to the options screen for Tomb Raider when you click on the word PLAY in the Stean library for Tomb Raider you'll open a screen that has the OPTIONS selection there. Select that and you can change the game options like turning off the Exclusive Fullscreen or changing the game quality to normal or high.

Since your laptop has a Nvidia graphics system try to see if there's a newer video driver for it - you might need to check the Toshiba site. Also make sure you've installed all of the Windows updates and patches for your operating system.

You won't be able to swap the graphics of your laptop between Nvidia and AMD and it wouldn't make any difference if you bought the game thru Steam instead of fro Amazon.

You might also try updating your graphics card drivers.

Hi GoBucks,

Thanks for your reply. I thought all my drivers were up to date - i checked them like 5 times by running a windows check -when i went to the NVIDIA websie turns out i could update. Who would think a 320 would be better than 500...i did visit the site but since my number was higher presumed it was the latest. The game is awesome. Been playing all day = am up to getting back onto the endeavour. it just crashed though so i hope it saved it all!!!!

Cheers again.
