The game that you will Love-To-Hate TM.
There's a lot to like about Hitman: Absolution, but so, so much that is poorly excecuted.
The save system, or lack there of(ugh where to begin)? Do you like repeating the same parts of a game over and over hoping for a new result? Well the developer must've thought everyone who plays their games are masochists because without allowing you to save, it becomes repetition for the sake of repetition. It's not skill based at all in these situations just luck. So what it boils down to is less realism and taking you out of the experience due to frustation. I love a challenge, but my time is precious.
The Challenges that are setup are serioulsy contrived as well. Not only has the developer created these tasks for you to complete, but once you do there's no reason to replay a level. The desgin isn't well thought out either, requiring you to pause the game and access a menu to scroll through a vague list. It's a guessing game. The "challenges" aren't really that either, unless you think again redoing something over again to complete and earn points is challenging. Many of them are nonsensical too, i.e. making Agent 47 kill a certain number of goons in a particular costume, why would a hitman do that? I started consulting video guides just so I wouldn't miss anything. It's amazing that a developer would purposefully create content for a game that may never be seen.
Finally the disguise rules are a joke. Use a costume that other characters are wearing and they'll spot you; put your hand over your face and you can "trick them". Just writing that made me laugh.
All of these features seem like a badly coordinated rush job. Which is a shame because the world is beautiful to explore in this game. The character models and animation are well done. Shooting and stealth(when it works) are fun also. Honestly if the older Hitman games, with their open-world gameplay, were made in this new Glacier engine it would be a fantastic experience.
It's such a mixed bag that I had to write this review to vent about it. It's been theraputic, thanks for reading.
