Com_Error called within a task success/failure callback
COD Black Ops II. First time seeing this issue. Upon fresh PC boot this AM, Steam loads normally (as I am able to write to this thread), however, when launching COD BO2, the screen goes BLACK/BLANK and COD BO2 console halts on error, "Com_Error called within a task success/failure callback". Troubleshooing; logon/logoff several time STEAM and rebooted PC twice.

No resolve.

We are not alone. I have had over 20 local users contact me this afternoon experiencing the same issue on PC, Multiplayer only (Campaign works fine). The only other common observation was a substantial STEAM update (lasting longer than 10 seconds on high-speed internet connection) before launching COD, reported by most users.

Todays results:
No help from game vendors and nothing substantial on Internet...so we go at this manually, systematically and methodically. Hack it!

Troubleshooting the local cache (deleting it, then re-downloading it from STEAM) did not work. Now at least instead of a BLACK SCREEN and COM_ERROR in console, I get COD BO2 multiplayer to "launch" for about 1 second, my STEAM status goes "GREEN (for ingame)", then fails and returns to BLUE (ONLINE) and nothing else....

I am having the same issue - validating local game cache didn't work either.

RESOLUTION: "Com_Error called within a task success/failure callback"

After deleting/reloading cache and rebooting, the problem persisted (as documented in comment#2 above). I then followed instructions at the following link regarding "Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)":

I was advised, "509 files failed to validate and will be reaquired". In STEAM, COD BO2 MP link in the TOP LEFT SIDE said "update required", and I simply double clicked on it. Update completed and I was able to successfully launch game. All server (such as rank) statistics remained and the local settings/controls were reset.

***The only additional step one of our community members suggested was CHANGING THE LANGUAGE from ENGLISH to something like FRENCH before you complete the update. Then changing it back once the update(s) complete. I did do this, but not sure if it helped or not.

im just check cache integrity in local files,steam gives me some updates for my client and it works!
