Just set a place for your ship to go, and watch it move everyturn. The mini-map is there and also can be zoomed on - to see where you ship is on the main map and then set it in the center to where you want it to go (via the mini-map) and let the ship move on its own.
The game has a queue on planets, that can be changed and buildings moved around up or down or taken out with the little arrows on top and the X up there if taking out.
The game is not that bad to play and the turns can go fast if you use the game as it can be played to cut down on the time the turn takes.
Other things to look for also - in trade route finding - just mark where you want to go and the ship will go there, even if invisible you can go to the limit of how far you can travel and see what you can see along the way.
Might look in options for other things like launching a spaceship after building it and it is in orbit on the planet. But I like to launch every ship I build because then I know when it is built, but in the Colony screen with all the other screens in the game - you can see if a ship has not been launched from orbit by the name of the Planet it is on.
Well, anything else is in the Options that the game allows, even density of the nebulae or how many stars in the background on the map.
The turns go fast also, but yes, that is the way the game plays unfortunately. Not a Quick Start to the game that I know of, but it never hurts to look at the options either.
The Find button finds the next ship to find (if having clicked on a ship to know how many turns it gets - whatever).
It is very simple once you get use to it.
