Back in the days Sleeping Dogs should have been the counterpart to Grand Theft Auto.
Well Grand theft Auto is and will always remain a highlight. Especially in case of graphics, open world etc… but Sleeping Dogs confidents in his very own and special way.
You play an undercover police officer in Hong Kong, who tried to infiltrate the local triad. There you expect to collect tasks such as collect money, to fight other gangs, kidnap some important people, to steal cars etc. Soon you will experience that the Triad seek internal changes in the balance of their leadership.
At the same time you are giving important information to your boss police). You take out some enemies before you can hack some surveillance cameras. With these cams you can watch drugs handovers, viewing the dealer and call the police to arrest him. You can also do some special missions, following some member of the triade, make hidden photos and listen to some discussions about money transfers.
In my opinion, the story is very captivating and exciting. The voice acting is good and look very authentic. Dont forget, ist not america, ist hong kong, different driving sides, freakier cars and everything is like really densely built.
All quest are categorized in three different areas :
- Police Area (after completing a quest you earn xp and can level up)
- Triade Area (after completing a quest you earn xp and can level up)
- Social Area (after completing a quest you earn xp and can level up)
Many contents are comparable to Grand Theft Auto . There is a huge open world , lots of traffic , own cars (stealing, buying) , special clothing for your hero, weapons , several apartments and ancillary tasks. You can find hidden chests with money or clothing. To increase your energy, there are several shrines. To learn new fighting techniques, there are also hidden statues. These statues you can bring to your former teacher of martial arts. Afterwards he teaches you a new technique. You can train it in his fighting school. Focus of the game is the martial arts melee. Several kinds of enemies waiting for you :
- Light opponents
- Serious opponents
- Enemies with weapons
- Covered Opponents
In addition to the main tasks that you can solve, there will be also little Quests to raise your Social Status. For example helping a woman to sink her car in the river. With those points you can buy better clothes. The clothes also allow you to earn some extra attributes (for example 5 % more damage on enemies in fights). After some time you will have enough money to buy anything, it just matters how is your current level in each area (police, triade, social). Some things you can only buy if you have a minimum level in one of the areas.
I dont want to talk much about the graphics. Check out some screenshots, even if you dont play this game on ultra settings, it looks great. It can not exceed GTA, but it still looks good enough in my opinion.
You can play it with both controller or keyboard. I prefer Keyboard, somehow I play most of those kind of games with mouse and keyboard. At least its much easier for me to hit targets with weapons instead of using the controller.
If you like GTA, then you will like this for sure. You can feel the intensity of the main character. I really like his way he speaks, the way he acts. He fits totally for this job.
If you love martial arts fightings with a mix of grand theft auto flavour, an open world, undercover action, a great story, then go and get it. I can only recommend the game.
PS: this was my first review of a game, who finds spelling errors in the text, can keep them xD
