hkship.exe

I just bought the game today, and every time i run it nothing happens. It's just a white screen, then the logos of all the companys, and then hkship.exe crashes. I checked the forums and everything and this problem has been around since August...what's wrong?

There's no conclusive answer yet. However, here's what worked for some people:
1) Exit Teamviewer.
2) Let the screen load for 15-20 minutes. After that wait, you should be at the title screen.

I'm not sure if this was tried, but try going into C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\SleepingDogs\Data\movies and either rename hk_intro_video_beta.bik to something else, or move it to a different folder. This is the 17 second video file that shows the logos of the companies. If that doesn't fix the problem, then it would at least save you 17 seconds of waiting.

when its showing all the logos alt+tab and it should load up

Alt+tab doesn't work for me. I played it once, because I waited for I don't know how long. I loaded the game, went to bed, woke up 8 hours later and the game was running. It was running fine too. Then I exited the game completely to see if I needed to wait for an unknown period again and it seems I do.

No game is worth that

Messed around with this problem several hours last night. Turned out my DirectX file was set with the wrong compatibility.

Go to program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/sleepingdogs/redist
Right click on the D3D11Installer_2010 file, go to properties and then click on the compatibility tab.

For me the compatibility mode was set to Vista, but I run Windows 7. I simply changed it to Windows 7. I also heard of Vista users having issues because for them is was set to the base mode of Vista rather than Service Pack 2 Vista mode

Hope this works...

After I installed the beta drivers for my videocard (Radeon 7770) I finally got this part to work. But I've seen a dozen different fixes that didn't do it for me (like the direct x or alt+tab fix mentioned above). Different systems require different fixes. I tried many until I found one that worked for me.
