laser sight: poor aiming glitch
How do you all find the laser sight for aiming? Doesn't it dissapear at random then you lose track of where you're aiming? I find that the worst bug about this game, and it prevents me from enjoying it and completing it.

It's really a shame, I played this on Commodore 64, and was thrilled to see it in HD, now it's just a pain to play.

THanks for posting this. Was thinking about taking advantage of the sale, but even $3 isn't worth a glitch like that.

Unfortunately they do not seem in a hurry to fix it.
I proposed a PC oriented solution/improvement here.
I think I even sent it to their support.

This control issue is really awful, they should fix it.
Too bad because otherwise the game is nice. :-/

Was gonna buy this game on 75% off sale but like BONERFART says even at the cheap price I wouldn't even bother with these problems.

Same for me, weapons allways fire at left/down, impossible to target ennemy, just have to pass them and fire behind me. Frustrating.

No issues for me either. Used to play the Apple II/e version, love the HD version. Good times!

Well the IGN review states aiming issues with the mouse on PC version and that was at release, and several others report the same issue on here, so the OP isn't talking rubbish obviously

A dev that doesn't fix bugs is a definate put off for me

I think I know what aiming issue you are talking about and I also think I have got an explanation for it. Imagine the position of the mouse cursor. If the mouse cursor is behind your helicopter, you cannot aim properly. You can see where the mouse cursor is on the screen by pressing escape which leads you tot the game menu. Aiming seems to work like this: the game tries to draw a straight line between the mouse cursor and the helicopter. With this explanation in mind, can anyone of you realize what I mean when playing the game?

I'm having the same aiming glitch problem. I wonder if it isn't due to my having a multi-monitor setup . . . does everyone else having this problem also use 2+ monitors?

I experienced this bug and on my PC I found a solution.

I have a 27" monitor with native resolution of 2560 x 1440. When I set the game to this resolution I experience the bug, which as others have said, makes the game unplayable. When I set the game to a lower resolution, in my case 1920 x 1080, the bug goes away, I can aim properly.

Not a good sign that the developer/publisher of this game doesn't bother to support this game. I noticed that Choplifter HD is from the same company that is developing Wasteland 2, not a good sign. I backed Wasteland 2 on Kickstarter, but if I had know they developed this mediocre game, I wouldn't have.

You must be lucky, I run at 1080 for everything. Maybe someday I'll try a lower res and see if the laser stays on, maybe.

Darn, this game is even worse than I thought. The keyboard controls are very poor and the gameplay isn't very exciting.

So many much better games to play, time for me to move on to something that is enjoyable to play.

I just found this in one of the patch notes:
"4. Fixed bug with laser aim sometimes staying on."

I guess they intended it to shut off after a few seconds. That really should be a toggle option then.

Yeah, have the mouse aiming problem here as well. I think I understand what BinaryPoet was trying to say, and I think he's correct -- the laser sight actually follows your cursor. The laser is basically a line that originates from the helicopter and passes -through- your cursor. Which you can't see. Because it's invisible. Of course.

If your cursor gets behind or even near the center-point of your helicopter (which is easy to do because you can't see it and you may be constantly changing directions), the gun kinda freaks out and either tries to shoot downwards (if the cursor is behind and below the chopper) or straight up (if the cursor is behind and above).

The other problem is that the further the "cursor" is away from the helicopter, the less sensitive the aiming mechanism is. The issue here is that you never know exactly where your cursor is, so you can never really be sure how much you need to move your mouse in order to appropriately adjust your aim.

This brings up another problem, as well -- if your cursor is at the side edge of the screen, you will find you can't aim lower than a 45-degree angle. This is because the invisible cursor is stuck in that bottom corner and won't travel any further "south." To continue aiming down at this point, you have to then move your mouse left/right.

Unfortunately, it's an issue that really kills the game after the first couple of missions, as the need to be able to aim at a bunch of things quickly becomes more crucial.

That patch that switches off the laser really, really, really exacerbated the problem, as that's when you really lose all sense of where your cursor is. Especially when you switch direction a few times. Ugh.

An xBox 360 controller (wired for me) completely eliminates this problem (and the controller comes in handy with tons of other games) It's much more enjoyable on a controller as well; forcefeed back works too. If you ever played the original choplifter, you will fall in love with this game.

Hi all,

I think I found a SOLUTION that suits me well… By accident, I realize that if I use the mouse for aiming and shooting the mashinegun, then the default zero angle of gamepad aiming is set to the angle I shot with the mouse last time… So, I soot once with the mouse at the beginning of each stage, and then I use the gamepad only. If I press the trigger without moving the aiming stick, then bullets are shooting to my default angle without aiming laser ‘dancing’ top and down of my chopper.
I now have no problem whatever the resolution (I play it on 1920x1080), but I did change resolutions before I realize the above solution, so maybe the game was aiming worse before I change-and-came-back to my native high resolution.

Nevertheless, the accuracy feeling with the joypad aiming is a bit strange… I feel like the aiming stick has ‘neutral’ positions every few angles. That means i move the stick constantly, but the laser beam moves-stops-mooves-stops-mooves while I turn the aiming stick with a constant rotating speed…

Either way, with the above solution I have now managed to play the game and be able to say that it was worthing the special offer money.
