In Revelations, what annoyed me the most were the somewhat changed climbing mechanics, although they only seemed to be minor ones in the beginning. I'm not referring to the Hook Blade, but rather to a change in the concept of the walls. You keep getting stuck in places where there's clearly visible things Ezio could grasp, but he just doesn't. Then there's jumping from roof to roof, where I keep getting this stumbling animation as if I didn't jump far enough, although any NPCs, be it pursuing enemies, fleeing thiefs or my fellow assassins, just jump and land smoothly on the other side. Also, the time between different actions while climbing increased, you have to wait PRETTY long (relatively, of course) for animations to end before you can do the next move, which gets annoying if it happens over and over again. It might not affect other gamers but it added up to be extremely annoying to me.
The exact same problem applies to buying shops, banks etc. I want to click them and get back to playing, but it takes several annoying seconds of useless cutscenes for EVERY single shop. It really slows down the overall pace of the game.
The story and presentation always kept me playing in every part of the AC franchise, but there were always these little things that made me want to stop playing. It would have been so easy to just make these animations skippable.
And to comment on the other additions Ubisoft tried in this game:
-Den Defense: crappy and boring, repetitive and unnecessary.
-Getting rid of notoriety (to avoid the above) - yet another pain in the ♥♥♥, it worked better in the previous games. It's really hard to find ways to decrease the ever-increasing red bar, because witnesses to kill and heralds to bribe are scarce.
-Sliding ropes - I liked this bit, but it is only a tiny improvement.
-Bomb crafting system - I literally never use the grenades, except for the missions that force me to.
-Gunmen everywhere - They were a neat, new addition in the last game, but this time they seem to start shooting on sight, no matter your notoriety. You climb on a roof, they almost immediately start shooting at you, which can result in quick deaths in the earlier game.
