Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Is it me or is the Gibraltar Bridge crossing really tough? (Mild spoilers)
I can't remember which difficulty level I selected -- second hardest, probably -- but I found the long sequence as you fight your way across the Gibraltar Bridge incredibly hard. I really like and admire the game and enjoyed the good AI maneuvering in this sequence even as I failed again and again and again. Although the game never commits the cardinal sin of spawning infinite waves of enemies until you reach a particular point on the map, this firefight throws a LOT of very well-armed Nazis at you, relentlessly and from all directions, and they can flank you. I think I must have attempted it nearly a hundred times.

Eventually I realised that it might be my play style that is partly to blame, as I like to move tactically and shoot from cover rather than run and gun. I think this game encourages you to move forward under fire in places and not hang around killing everything before you move up. In this extended firefight, you are better off rushing forward so that you can trigger the checkpoint rather than attempt to clear the map of all enemies from cover, because that will wear down your health and eventually kill you.

Anyway, this sequence tested me to the limit and I was just wondering if any of you had a similarl experience with it, i.e. verging on frustration/rage.

time to put your bigboy trouser on and manup; that said it is tricky on Am Death Incarnate ended up running around alot, backwards most of the time; yet to see what this will be like on Uber hope it's as challenging.

No frustration or rage here, just enjoyed it.

I took many of them out with sniper and then grenade launcher from behind cover but yes this game does encourage you to run and gun ( and that has saved me once or twice in campaign)
I liked this chapter the best because it looks beautiful. The artwork is great. I enjoyed the different enemies, the many paths you can find, the beams to walk across, the holes to fall in when you duck for cover. For me it's the best part of the game.

I killed them all first before moving forward. There are two places for perfect cover where none of them can reach you and you can take them all out. Also, there are lots of health packs, ammo, grenades, etc. Very enjoyable and you get a smart suit at the end.
Once you get the Laserkraftwerk scope upgrade (in one of the train cars), the longest fight sequence on this bridge becomes much more easy. There are MANY enemies, but they do not spawn endlessly. A couple parts took me a few tries on Uber difficulty, but they are perfectly do-able if you have that scope upgrade.

I died a fair few times on the bridge on Uber, but most of those were because the game checkpointed at a spot where I had 20 health and enemies appeared within seconds of my respawn. It felt like a bad Max Payne quick save. : p
Dang! I missed the Laserwhatsit scope! Oh no, do I get another chance?
You can avoid the turret gunner on the right until you reach the save point. That's a huge asset, as taking him on every time makes it more likely that you'll die before reaching that save point. The thing is, most of the firefights are over, and the save comes, when all enemies are killed. This one is a little different; the save comes when the player fights his way to a certain place, regardless of how many Nazis there are left. Knowing this will make the next playthrough much less vexing for me.
The game developers are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

As I feared, this part of the game does indeed spawn enemies *infinitely*, and only stops if you reach a certain point forward. I dislike that intensely... Buy hey, I'll try to soldier through now, knowing this... :)
.
10 minutes later: Got it by just sprinting past the enemies. Then kill them from behind their position. The infinite respawning will stop then.
