Ex: Barricade every entry way to the rift (Using the blue lines) Till they show into one area where you didn't barricade. Then set up your killbox there, Just watch a few video tutorials on certain levels and build your own idea of a killbox from there.
Sometimes you just have to use fast management if you're playing solo. (Such as the level Crunch)
I deal with leakage with AOE Weapons such as the Lightning Ring. Usually I put defenses near the rift and just slowly build out, but thats my preference.
I'm not sure if this helped or not, or answered your question or not, but it's just what I learned from playing the game,
And in all, just have fun, you can deal with the harder stuff later ^^
im actually playing MGS and not this game, i came here to ask players cause this is kind of their area.
so i see i need to create some sort of a funnel then a killbox as you say which is already a plan for me.
For the ratio between slow/dmg traps i cant really say a number, it depends on the battle field and you will get a feeling for it while you play.
My loadout recommendations are:
- Tar trap: A must. Considered the most useful or best trap in the game.
- Arrow wall: Easy to use, has wide range and sufficient damage output for its cost.
- Barricades: As was explained by Atyx you need them to create pathways. Cuts one way off to ballance the lack of a co-op partner as OMD2 was designed with emphasis on co-op. Works not for all levels, neither is an absolut requirement for 5 skulling. It just makes things easier for relaxing game play.
- Void wall: Throw enemies in for insta death and receive pots and gold for it. I would say the 2nd best trap in the game.
- Swinging Mace: Very powerful. If you want easy game put 2 of them together with tar traps and a decoy, and almost everything dies without your intervention.
- Archers: Put them a bit away from each other so that they dont fire at a single enemy which could be killed from 1 volley of arrows (yes, they fire a few times in a quick session, then "reload").
- Boom Barrel: The most underrated trap in the game. OP. I normally dont use it, because when i do it feels like cheating. Its fun though to arrange a line of boom barrels, helping with xbow to cluster the orcs, wait until more orcs come and start the firework that scores a killstreak of 50.
Weapons:For experienced players, these 2 traps, together with some weapons are enough to beat the level
Another use of them is to narrow the path where you also put your grinder to kill kobold runners, or just slow enemies down on a map like crunch so that stuff is less likely to sneak pass your archers.
- Crossbow: If you are not an awful marksman then this weapon is a must. Headshots are very powerful. Stun allows for mob control, combines well with fire bracers.
- Frost amulet: I always use it. Freezes enemies and makes them receive x 2.5 damage. Combine it with Crossbow for easy aiming and multiplied damage. Also, kills rids you off the flyers when it hits them. One decent aimed shot and 6 or more flyers are off long before they come close to you.
- Wind Belt: Throws a group of enemies in a death spot on levels with abysses, lava, acid or where you can place a void wall. If none of the said are available, it still can be used to push a mob away, giving you place and time to deal with enemies and mana to regenerate.
- Lightning Ring: On war mage difficulty very useful, as lesser enemies spawn. Good against a group of kobold runners. Has increased damage against trolls.
- Fire Bracers: Suitable for nightmare. It damages all mobs within a certain area. You can fry dozen(s) of orcs with a single shot.
Those are items i recommend to use, not really a loadout on its own. A loadout should be built upon map design, incoming enemies and your play style. For the leaking of enemies, you can place shock zapper(s) if it can cover the area, bromstones and/or a few archers near the rifts(s).
i want to clarify that i dont play OMD, i just came here to take advice and by reading this i do understand basic things i didnt thought/knew of.
i play Metal Gear Survive.
i found a video of MGS with a player that actually create that Kill Box or Chock point you mentioned.
https://youtu.be/-JUvbLCiR_w?t=94
01:34 into the video if that is interset you.
i now understand wher i should put the slowing traps and killing traps in some sort of killing box without spreading it throw the whole route.
thanks again.
Would have to experience both games , since they're bound to be different. If anything, we could only give more generic information where you can probably find anywhere online for tower defence.
I'd say, to learn , just play and experiment with a lot of things.
Such as for this game, I had trouble with a certain level called "Crunch" because of 4 entry ways and I play solo.
The best way to learn is to experience and theory craft yourself. I doubt we could provide anymore info unless we have played MGS.
the creativity of using traps, or the proportion of slow/damage or how to deal with certain situation i belive is in your blood and you can use same ideas between games.
ofc i agree that in order to be good in the game you just have to play it to learn the items and limitation, but you have the strategy already, i had nothing.
where would you put the barricades?
only in the junctions?
or will you build killbox for the 3 close spwawning points?
it really depends on your weapon and traps. the most important thing is in this game, the orcs have to walk one by one when there is only a single path available. that's why placing kill boxs in a bottleneck road is a viable strategy. Do the enemies in Survive behave the same way?
I think you should play this game so that you wil have a solid understanding on playing defend vs horde genre.
Don't sink skulls into too many different things unless you have upgraded the ones you use most reasonably (best: maxed out).
2.
Don't go with a mana-using weapon unless you have another non-mana-using weapon or the mana rush trinket with you.
3.
Get your barricades upgraded as soon as you can so that they self-heal and cost less. Use them to build bottlenecks that are heavily trapped.
4.
Best take at least one trinket with you, either healing, mana rush or trap reset, depending on the map you face.
5.
Never use paladins (unless they are out of sight of any barricades). Paladins follow and attract enemies, and if fighting close to the barricades they will cause them collateral damage. You can hardly afford losing your barricades in vital spots.
6.
Experiment with trap combos.
7.
Have fun killing orcs!
