Just started and have a question....
I am starting with Reunion simply because thats the first in story....Is that wise or would I be better playing TC or AP? I'm trying to learn as much as I can by myself, because one minute in and I can tell its going to take a lot of time to learn. A buning question besides which one is this. I am on the 3rd story mission chasing the crystal, and I had a pirate bail on their buster. The message I got said I could eject and claim the ship as my own. Now that sounds great because I am guessing I could sell it, but what about my ship? Does it just stay floating there or what? I am really liking what I see so far and am very interested to get further into this game and I have nothing but time for gaming, which is good since so far it is really hard which I appreciate.... Any other tips or anything would be helpful as well. I even dusted off an older joystick that I picked up years ago for some game or another which is making it even more fun. Thanks. The communtiy from what I can tell seems nice, so thanks for any help.

The X series isn't really about the story (For me anyway :P). It's still a good story but for me it's more fun to go out into the universe and make money, build a merchant corp or make an army to fight xeno scum (or anyone who bumps into me).
Stick with Reunion it is a really fun game.
If you do get tired of it, TC and AP both improve visually, gameplay wise it's roughly the same.

After you claim the pirate ship you can send it to a shipyard and get back into your ship.

For general gaming tips and nonsense, check out the X3 Handbook: http://apricotmappingservice.com/x3handbook.html
The are spoilers in it though, but they are clearly marked.

So I just go up to it (after ejecting) and click the option to claim and then I can get back in my ship and send it to a shipyard? Thats great. The first time it happened I was a little worried to eject lol. Next time I'll grab it tho. I'm really having trouble dealing with the pirates on the 3rd mission (chasing the crystal)...they keep owning me before I can jump. If I try and kill them first, its too late. I might just start over on one of the non-story mode, till I'm a little better. I'm really going to put some time into it this weekend. Got soooo many game this week lol, but really wanting to put some time in and learn this game. Love space, and the thought of a life among a space faring society, so I think I will really wear this game out once I can get it figured out some.....Thanks!

If you are playing x3 reunion and/or TC, get the Xtended mod. The mod adds massive new stuff and balances existing ones. Unfortunately the mod aint compatible with AP.

Beware that most mods will mark the game so you will not earn achievements if those are important to you. Otherwise they can make life easier.

I liked X3 Reunion the best... it was much harder to earn credits and just seemed to be better paced. In an hour of game play in x3:tc/ap it just seems like I earn to much for little effort *especially if I am going for a trader*. While in Reunion it took much longer.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably play without mods, at least for a bit, just so I know the vanilla game. Excited to put some time in this weekend! Any other tips appreciated.
