Running AP LU off USB stick?
So I cant install any programs on my work computer. I have ran AP LU off an usb stick but its very glitchy. Would this be due to a USB speed? Its a 2.0 stick.

Imho you would need to ensure all caching was to a faster media. If the game folder is on teh stick I say you will soon bottleneck at the USB writing limitations, not to mention the wear and tear on the stick

I dont really care much about the stick. I think I might have to invest into eSATA adapter.

Be careful, you're essentially trying to circumvent their policy - any dodgy software is still running on the PC, changing the media it's installed on I don't think will make the security guys/gals happy. It could be a firable offense depending on your contract/agreement.

Edit: Not that I think X3 is dodgy, and I guess if they explicitly allow USB's and eSata then I might be overcautious, but I'd check with them first if you haven't that that's OK.

I would just bring a laptop to work with games installed.

The way I see it is I paid for the game and I'm the only one playing it. If I was allowed to install software on my work computer I could install steam and play the game. I don't see how this is different.

But never mind I won't play it on work computer

you don't see how the people you work for may get mad at you for circumventing their policy by using outside hardware to play games using their computers while at work? really??

No. I work by myself with no one around.
Von Pink May 16, 2017 @ 5:12pm
and that has what to do with anything?

the people who pay you want you to work and not play games.
Grumpy May 16, 2017 @ 5:17pm
Don't you have someone else to bother? WTF do you care what I do at work? And I'm done talking to you.

He has a point zanosg....

You might like to check the small print on your Employment Contract. Your work computer may have auditing software already installed that would eventually let your employer know about you running external apps, or even running a game! Even if not mentioned in your Contract an Employer can still monitor their machines usage and may do so legally as part of their in-house security protocol.

Auditiing software can either store logs locally or send it to your employers security team. It would almost certainly reveal how long your were playing.

You might lose your job and get a black mark on any Reference you might hope from them.

Even if you can take your own machine in, if you use Steam through their WiFi it would show up in a log.

If I were you I'd kill this thread and stop playing at work. But it's your life, do as you please.

I guess it depends on the intent of their policy. It might be for security reasons; any external software you run on their computer can expose the company to a lot of problems.

If you're allowed to play games in your spare time, they probably wouldn't mind you using an offline laptop.

Edit: Almost definitely -> might be

Just bring a laptop or tablet to work. A lot less likely that anyone will be upset. But they may still whine about you using their power, which is often silly to get upset about. In that case, bring your own portable A/C battery.

I'd normally complain that you're being paid to work, not play, but I've also seen plenty of jobs where my work load is so light that I may as well bring something along with me. Either because I have absolute dead-time where I have no work and my employer won't address my lacking work load, or in cases where my work load is very slow to process and I easily can multi-task in-between when I need to be actively working and when I am waiting for something to be done. Especially when you consider X3 can be extremely hands-off and automated while you work.

We are not allowed to play games or install software on the work computer. I didn't realize that even if I don't install the game but run it as portable that they could find out. I don't do much at work. 99.99999999 of my shift is down time. I work on slot machines and I only get called out of office when something is wrong and usually it's something small that takes me 2 seconds to fix. Rest of the time I just sit there staring in the screen. I don't see my boss often, maybe once a year and no one else comes into the building area where I am except other techs but they don't work for my company. We are all vendors.
