It is "sound" related, stands for "Environmental Audio Extensions" , for Sound blaster cards.

It's a mode used by sound cards for advanced audio effects. You need an audio card that explictly supports EAX, like Sound Blaster; your motherboard's onboard sound processor won't let you use it.

Tbh. don't know. Had my last EAX soundcard at the beginning of the 90's where it was a "big" thing. Even then it was 2% enhancement and 98% pr ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
