Free Level 85 Heroic character for everyone between 1-15 October 2013

Just on case people do not know SOE are offering everyone the option of obtaining a level 85 character for nothing during the above period (after which if you want one they will cost you station cash to purchase).

So if you are even slightly interested in EQ2 (even if you don't intend to play it straight away), it might be worth spending a few hours of your time to give the classes a test run to find the one that suits you so you can take advatage of this offer.

I hate it, they are giving away insta 85's. Atleast im working on my levels. Now half the server population is pegasi and 85's. We cant hold this point much longer, we need air support. Give me all youve got.

I don't mind it so much for EQ2 simply because the game is so old and the community is very top heavy at this point with most of the population at the top end of the level scale.

Also non of the content has been made obsolete by this as you can down level yourself using the chronomage and so you are able to play whatever content suits your tastes be it end game, mid or low level. This simply gives you some more options on how you choose to play the game imo.

If the game was a couple of years old or so then I would be all pitch forks and mobbing the gates but at this stage of the mmo's life this seem appropriate to me, especially with EQ Next/Landmark on the horizon.

This actually sounds really good, especially since I'm more interested in doing quest runs and getting into the lore - so it's nice to see you don't get locked out of content just because you're 85. Will have to check this out. Haven't played since like the 7 day Fae trial so I'm really happy they did this.

These games like you say tend to become really top heavy over time and this one's what, like 10 years at this point? Not really something I'd considder getting into at all had they not sent this email out...

This insta 85 stuff sounds boring after youve played it an hour. I can tell their bored, the fact their running around new halas aimlessly doing nothing.

Well its optional and you do not have to use it if you do not wish to. You can still level through the game the old fashined way if you wish there is nothing stopping you doing that at all. This just gives people the option of a leg up if they want it.

It should be noted that after the 15th of October the heroic character will cost 3500 station cash which may well mean that not everyone will want to use them if they miss this promo.

The level cap is 95 so you still have a bit of work to get to cap. You also will have to get your spells levels which start at adept for the heroic character up to an apporiate end game level. If you are into crafting that is not levelled at all so that will need working on. Your alternate advancement points will need work too and I am sure there are other things that need doing also. So there is still plenty for people to get their teeth into even with the leg up that is being offered here.

If you think differently then fine we agree to disagree and we will both still enjoy EQ2 as we so choose :)

Just so everyone is clear on this, the characters only last until lvl 86 and then you have to buy them or until the trial period is over.

Incorrect. The promotion offered between Oct 1st and Oct 15 is one character to level 85. After this, there is a 'try before you buy' system which gives you a level 85 but you cannot go beyond 86 without buying - or you can upgrade an existing character to 85 with a set amount of AAs and some level appropriate (but likely poor compared to the levelling curve) gear.

Just to clear up the little bit of confusion from the last few posts.

The following are the options that you will have:

First, for a limited time, players can create a Heroic Character for free. Oct. 1 until Oct. 15 is our “Hero’s Call” event which invites new players to create one free new Heroic Character per household. Existing accounts can create or upgrade to a Heroic Character for free too!

Additionally, Heroic Characters can be purchased at any time from our store. The options include: Try Before You Buy, New Heroic Character, and Upgrade Existing Character.

1) Try Before You Buy: This option offers one full level of play from Level 85 to 86 – which takes a typical player several hours – with 100 Alternate Advancement (AA) points to test out a class of your choice at a high level. The Free Trial includes a flying mount, armor, consumables, and a few restrictions.

2) New Heroic Character: A full Heroic Character can be purchased at Character Select or while playing as a Free Trial character. It includes level 85, 280 AAs, all items included in the Free Trial, and is unrestricted.

3) Upgrade Existing Character: The Upgrade option allows you to select any existing character at any level and upgrade it to a Heroic Character. All upgraded characters receive level 85 and are increased to 280 AAs, but not beyond. If you are above level 85 and have more than 280 AAs, you won't receive additional levels or points, but will get a bundle of items that includes the flying mount, armor, and consumables.

Once you commit to an heroic character (including your free one) it is no different from any other character and will be able to level all the way to cap. The level cap will depend on what expansions you have purchased.

im verry new to this game and let me say the crafting part is a BLAST..dieing trying to craft things is most fun part.so far,i enjoy this game.

Just another way to make money! 30 euros for a lvl 85 character. Just goto Guild Wars 2! Every 2 weeks a free update and living world! Help change the world you play in! And man, EQ2 gfx are soo outdated!
