The vocal minority of reddit users screwed SOE gamers
"The current benefit of receiving 500 Station Cash (SC) monthly will be replaced with a new program that allows you to select one single item valued up to 2000 SC each month. Nearly all items within the games’ Marketplace will be available for this selection. Players Studio, bundles and additional exclusions may apply. This new benefit must be claimed each month that you are a member as it will not carry over to subsequent months."

We are considering (and are likely going to move forward with) a plan that means if you subscribe to one of our games you are a subscriber to all our games (this applies to PC titles only btw).. all for the current $14.99 a month. That's a benefit most companies simply can't offer because they don't have our portfolio of games. The goal would be to let you pick an item in each game you play. Some of you might say "well who cares..I only play Planetside 2. How is that a benefit to me?" My answer is simple - we've got a great lineup of games, some of which aren't announced yet that cater to a lot of players. We have EQN and EQNL coming along with other..... games... that PS2 players might just like

Then a bunch of butthurt whiners on Reddit started complaining about not being able to stockpile Station Cash and the position got changed, again.

Thanks for the feedback. We listened.

We're keeping the 500 SC included with the subscription instead of going to the "pick an item" system. We heard you. You didn't like the change. The only change we are making is that we're now going to make you claim it monthly. You can still hoard it though :) I realize this is a bit of a pain but honestly it's the best compromise we could come up with that solves the problems I mentioned in the other thread.

So yeah, instead of getting 2000SC ($20) towards one item that you could purchase once a month, now we're back to 500SC ($5) that you can save every month with your Total Access subscription (benefits throughout all SOE games for $14.99 a month). So now, you have the privilege of being able to hoard your 500 SC for 4 months in order to get what we were being offered in the first place.

What do you guys think about that?

The reduction of total access is quite good though. Getting ALL these benefits throughout the entire portfolio for your usual subscription fee? Pretty good deal. It just could have been a ♥♥♥♥ton better.

If you disagree with the reversal, post on the forums, tweet @j_smedley, make sure the vocal minority of reddit appear as what they are, a minority.

its self entitled ♥♥♥♥♥s like yourself and the majority of the f2p players in everquest that made this game go downhill in the first place, they didnt have to give you anything at all for subscribing yet you complain that they changed from giving you an item worth more than your subscription to returning to the 5$ back every month be grateful that sony is giving you anything outside of the great game experience that is everquest

OP, you are vocal, and you are a minority.
I dont give a rat's about reddit, the people that had something to say did so on the official Everquest 2 forums and trust me, they were not a minority at all.
If they were a minority, SoE would not have gone back on their decision.
I also agree with Arashi above...again :P

Self-entitled. Nice use of the buzzword of the last two years. Expecting to not get ♥♥♥♥ed over by a minority of Reddit and Planetside users when they came out and said that they fully intended to give us a better deal is self-entitlement? What are you on? Not even the most rabbid of fanboys would make that argument.

i argue that at least they decde to give you something for free, they could just have the subscription be just a subscription

And no one would buy it because it would be a poor value in today's MMORPG subscription market. Don't act like they're doing us any favors. They're Sony Online Entertainment. Their objective is to make your money their money. Yeah, they have great people working there that try to do the best that they can but they still have that main objective and when they offer a better deal and a vocal minority of users complain about it and we get that option taken away, we are eligible to speak about what was being offered without being accused of "self-entitlement"
kaay Jan 11 @ 4:57pm
You are entiteled to have your opinion Alexander, but your opinion was not shared by many, and the thousands post long thread on eq2 forums is proof of that.

The station access deal is pretty sweet if you ask me, aside from the 500 sc/month to spend on any station game you want and on whatever you want, you also get LoN booster packs each month that aside from the game cards can contain rare loot items.

Replacing the 500sc that you are free to hoard or to spend on anything you want in any of the station games with a single 2000sc that you HAVE to spend on a SINGLE item and it does not carry over to next month is not an upgrade, its a downgrade for the vast majority of players.

For your playstyle it might have been an advantage, but apparently your playstyle (or buying habits) are different from those of the majority of players.

There is no right or wrong here, its just that the majority spoke and SoE listened.

Actually I was unable to post. It didn't silence anything. They offered a better deal to customers and a small minority of forum users and redditors screwed everything up. Read the forums now. People are ♥♥♥♥ed, except for the small minority that got their way.
Dreusyla Arashi Jan 12 @ 11:27pm
the 500 points per month is a better deal anyways, cant buy a mount with the limit of 2000 points value per month ad can only pick one item
Andy Jan 19 @ 6:11am
I know this thread is a few days old, but I wanted to add that many players on the Planetside sub were upset because, as Alexander's first quote states, Player Studio items and bundles would not have been included as part of the one-item-per-month choice.

Player Studio items are important to a lot of Planetside players and no longer being able to save up montly SC for them was a big negative.

I was looking forward to the 2k option, but to say that those that were opposed were a minority is an outright lie. One of the major reasons for the attempted change is that many people, myself included, hoard large amounts of SC, and because of greedy govt, SoE gets taxed every year on SC that isn't spent, so they were looking for a way to lessen their tax burden. However, so many ppl threatened to drop sub that they figured getting the shaft from the govt was better than losing subs.

For anyone in any doubt about what is really going on with the Gaming Industry in relation to it getting money out of Gamers:

It is a form of "Online Grooming".

That's what they're doing and it should be stopped at the earliest possible moment when it will simply landslide into whoever is responsible for supporting the individuals doing it.

it is the exact same thing as credit card companies outside of the Banking System handing out large amounts of cash because the quasi-currency of Oil was particularly good at the time.

What the developers are doing is putting an out-dated and unsafe car on the road, filling it with sweets and candy, then placing it off of the public highway on top of a verge, have a card reader connected to a post and wait for someone to use their credit card and get into the car -
where they then drive off and shortly explode into a fireball.

The Game Developer responds with an urgent Press Release:
"This feature was not intended when the car was stationary."

I think you are wrong here, Subscription games are suprior in everyway to a Free to play game. The games that were sub going to F2P are suprior to F2P games being F2P to start.

I prefer sub games for this reason, we get more content right off the bat, we get full access to everything instead of having to fork over money to unlock every money wall some of these F2P games have.

In the end these F2P games make you feel worthless, if you spend your money or not, the company usually doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about what you do. Not only that majority of these F2P games have a gamble mechanic usually called a lockbox, In which most of the people have to pay hundreds of dollars to get at the good items, past the junk ones inside.

But beyond cashshop being the only thing that gets updated meaning if you want all the items the game has to offer in a F2P game you'll constantly be forking over 50 dollars every month just to keep up with them. Very rare does one ofthese F2P games release free content.

In the end Subscription games have a bigger world, a better story, better expansions/updates. and holds your attention longer then any of the rip you off F2P games.
