Executables not included in linux version
Yesterday evening I saw Cave Story+ was available on the Linux Beta so I gave it a try. Turns out only the data files got downloaded. Should I try and find the executable files somewhere else or wait for an official solution? I've contacted the support

Same happened to me. I got all excited, but I guess we'll just have to wait :/

I've been trying my Humble Bundle 7 Steam keys every few days in hopes that they'll install & was excited when I noticed today that Cave Story installed. However, as someone mentioned above--the executable(s) are missing. :(

It's closed beta. Just wait.

Waiting for it as well! Hope it doesn't take long!

what you can do as an workaround is download the 32bit version tbz from HIB website, extract it and copy it to the steam cavestory folder, after that you will have all the files needed and the steam will happily launch the game.

When using Linux 64bits distro, it is also needed to copy the lib64 folder with SDL and GLU library.

the game might launch, but steam overlay and achievements don't work (properly?)

Regarding syncing save files between Windows and Linux installations I came up with a script. Type this in a text editor:

32-bit Windows:

#!/bin/bash
cp /windows/Program\ Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Cave\ Story+/Profile.dat ~/.local/share/CaveStory+/Profile.dat

64-bit Windows:
#!/bin/bash
cp /windows/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Steam/steamapps/common/Cave\ Story+/Profile.dat ~/.local/share/CaveStory+/Profile.dat

Save as whatever you want, e.g. CaveStory+SyncSave.sh. Save to a convenient folder like the desktop or home folder and type in terminal:

chmod +x CaveStory+SyncSave.sh

to make the script executable.

As said above, achievements aren't unlocked playing that way. Too bad... I guess we'll wait a bit longer

I can confirm that on Mint 13 amd64, you can just un-tar and copy everything to the Cave Story folder in the Steam directory. I "merged all," then did not overwrite anything. This allowed it to run, and also copied my savegames and control scheme over.

Note that I'd already been playing it via the HumbleBundle package--but wanted to be able to get achievements and such. :-)

It's annoying that the Steam version released without the needed files, and I can't think of why they'd be so daft as to make it so, especially when the fix is so simple. Why not spend 15 minutes and do it right? Geez...

It should be mentioned that the game isn't listed as Linux ready. IMO the fact that we got the data files is just the promise that eventually it'll be there

Just a thought: say you play the game in Linux, you achieve something and you sync the saves in Windows. Can the achievements be unlocked that way?

I just learned from another game's forum that some games that were purchased from humblebundle.com are being listed as available on Steam, but ONLY for those who already own them. For everyone else, they're (as far as I know) not listed as LInux-compatible. It would seem that this will change as soon as they've been fully-ported.

I see. I totally forgot I had added the cd-key as a non-Steam game (the key itself was gifted to me, it was from HIB after all).

Btw I asked at the Steam support for an ETA for the executable files.

A fix for those who have bought a Humble Bundle with CS+ and are using Linux (something similar to this may work for Windows/Mac, but I do not know.)

1. Download the latest .deb package.
2. Open both the download directory and the game data directory (Right click CaveStory+ in Steam, go to Local Files, and click Browse Local Files).
3. Extract the files from the .deb package.
4. Move into the 'opt/cave-story-plus/' directory.
5. Copy 'lib/' and 'CaveStory+'
6. Paste into your game data directory.

If you have done this correctly, you should have 3 things in the base of the Cave Story+ directory: 'data/' 'opt/' and 'CaveStory+'. In addition to this, it should successfully launch.

It looks like Penguin Pants had already done this. Sorry if it looks like I was stealing credit. I tried it before I even looked at this thread.
