Why does Steam say only "Partial Controller Support"?
My first impression is that the controller support is better than most games out there. It recognizes both my DirectInput and XInput controllers with no conflicts or tweaking or anything.

Terrible at this game May 7 @ 2:24pm
I guess it means that the controls aren't set up automatically? At least, they weren't for me.

And it appears I can't get out of the game with just the controller -- I have to press ESC once to even get the option to return to the main menu.

So the game is better played with a controller?

Controller or keyboard are fine, just whichever you prefer. I have run through the game multiple times using both.

I beleive games say partial controller support when you cannot access every command through a gamepad alone. In Cave Story+ it would be the Esc key leads to another menu, but cannot be bound to a controller button.

I don't want to open a new thread for that so I may ask here. I play the free version of Cave Story (the old one) and I don't like the fact that Jump is on B, I want it on A, on my Xbox 360 controller. So I was interested to buy Cave Story+ for a little upgraded version, but if you tell me that I can set the Jump on my A button (or any work-around you know), I'll definately buy it.

Never played the original, but in + there is a section in the title menu that allows full controller remapping. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't allow dual binding (I would have liked interaction to be seperate from down). But moving the jump button is easy.

Thanks mixttime, that's all I wanted to know :)

Can get out of the game with a WingMan gamepad controller but NOT a Thrustmaster gamepad controller. Though some games that say full controller support dont support neither of my linux gamepads

You may have bound a button to the escape key yourself with third-party software, but the game's built in controller mapping won't do it.
Also, as stated above, controller support levels doesn't refference how many controllers it supports but rather what you can acess with a supported controller. For information on what controllers work you should visit the pages for those games. Generally you want "DirectInput" for older games and "Xinput" for newer ones.
