I was a massive fan of the original Torchlight, and thought that this one would have big shoes to fill if it was to be a worthy successor. The TL;DR version is that it's a quality game... with a couple of caveats.
It's a bit more messy. Torchlight saw you carrying a few quests, and it was fairly straightforward how you were going to complete them. This game - even though there are GPS points on the minimap - frequently left me wondering why I'd not got a 'quest completed' message... because I'd missed some tiny passageway which opened up into a boss fight. This meant there was a lot of going back over old territory, which I just find a bit frustrating.
Other than that - if you liked Torchlight, or if you like any sort of Diablo-esque game - you'll find TL2 a worthy addition to your collection. I wouldn't call it deep, and it's certainly quite linear... but then so are almost all of the games of this type.
Graphically nice. Rather cartoony. Crappy cut-scenes. Excellent voice acting (though not much of it) and nice crisp controls... and clever pets that you can send off to do errands. The game is frequently frantic, rather engaging, and in short, very nice.
