Torchlight II too easy.
Does anyone else think that Torchlight II is too easy? I quit playing Diablo 3 because it made you play through all of the easier difficulties before being able to play a difficulty worth a challenge; I was excited that Torchlight II let you choose the difficulties right off the bat.

I started on the highest difficulty and the game is still so easy. I'm level 10 so far. It's not high, but I was thinking that on the highest difficulty it would at least be a challenge. I just run in to groups of enemies and spam my hammer (engineer) and rarely even lose any health. I had to quit and log back in just to make sure I didn't click the wrong button when starting the game.

Does it get any harder later on? Please tell me yes!

yeh it should be only a couple more levels before you die in one hit :D

It does. Act 1 is really easy. It's more of a setting up Act, in my mind. However, even on normal, around midway Act 2, that's when I started feeling the challenge. In Act 3, I would garuntee a challenge for even a rather skilled player. NPCs come charging out from every side and it becomes meyhem. Trust me, as far as I'm concerned, it did get harder.

It gets harder toward the end of act 2. You can also play HC if you want extra challenge. I actually find act1/elite fairly tedious, so a little surprised you find it too easy (well, I guess it isn't hard, just takes long to kill stuff before you get some gear).

It seems like it is already starting to get more challenging. It's good to know that it gets harder, but I didn't realize it scales a lot by acts. Now I'm wondering if I should play it on a step down just in case it gets too crazy later on.

don't forget their friends the "charge at you and one shot you" big bull fighters.
oh, and also the Goblin Foremen at the mines, who throw dynamite...
who ever said Act 1 was easy, obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

You can always change the difficulty by making a LAN game (don't need an actual LAN for that), and it's exactly like single-player. You can also use Rapid Respec (link below) if you want to change the difficulty permanently. But, just stick with elite, it's not that bad :). Personally, I like the balance that veteran offers on the first playthrough, but elite is really do-able.

he said he thinks Elite is too easy - so why change difficulty or use respecing tools?

I'm just saying he didn't play it enough yet, because in my opinion the difficulty in almost every part of Elite is balanced around "hard" and becomes "insane" towards the end of the story.

He said in a later post that it gets harder and he contemplates veteran difficulty. I responded to that later post. (#4)

Act 1 is a breeze its when you hit act 2 that you start to hit those damage spikes and on a game plus replay its gets even harder.

I made it to the scrapworks (Act III), then got killed by its boss, because I accidentally drank a mana potion instead of a health potion. I didn't touch the game for weeks because of that...
I even made a screeny back then:

(Of course I tried again and actually beat the game, but man, I got nervous every now and then...)

Hate to disappoint you but I started the game on Veteran, have never played any Torchlight before this and the game is dishearteningly easy... and stays this way...forever... :( I made a cannon engineer didn't even know the game mechanics that well and blew through everything while half asleep. Made me sad. I assumed playing on Veteran/Hardcore mode I would have quite the challenge and not be able to stand in the middle of 100 mobs and go take a 10 minute crap and have my owl kill everything while I regen health faster than I can get hit... Lame. Still better than D3 though...
