Opinons on gold systems
So like many of you I have been playing some Path of Exile and was wondering what people thought of the currency system there versus on Torchlight. Is Item based the way to go?

I've played many ARPGs, including PoE TL2, and D2. I can comfortably say that I prefer gold, purely for ease-of-use and a better learning curve for the new players; that said, PoE has a brilliant system, but unfortunately, it comes with a hefty learning curve. The beauty of D2 and PoE, is that the real "gold" is in items like runes and orbs; once you understand these, it can work far better than gold, IMO.

One of the biggest problems, I personally think, is that PoE and D2's type of economy, means that prices are more "street-prices" than actual set prices, which makes players vulnerable to scams, and makes it very confusing if you step out of the game for a while, like I've done. I stopped playing PoE for a while (several months) and now it's released, there's no Anarchy, and there's been plenty of updates, so I suspect all the prices are completely and utterly different. :( I know for sure that prices were messed around, when they released that GCP update, in Open Beta, which kind-of screwed me over.

I play PoE for a while and never really got all the hype about it. It was an okay game, but the economy sucked, and i never really felt anything about the time played. The only thing i really liked about PoE was the skills, that was a awesome feature.

thing is when it comes to economy in games like this (ARPG) you don't want to have to be sat around trying to figure out what your going to get from your item. Gold makes things a lot easier and makes the gaminging experience more fluid
