XCOM: Enemy Unknown does not start

Hello,

maybe someone can help some of you, because I have the support so far unfortunately not received a response.

I have the game XCOM: Enemy unknown bought on 11.10.2012
(online game code).

Everything worked out great, game was downloaded from Steam servers down.
After the download and installation does not start the short game.

Maybe Error download?

Ok delete and download again.
Did not work again.

Game to debug with Steam can.
Error message "1 file can not be verified, we downloaded file again."
Game does not start anyway.

Then came the message "This game is currently unavailable (application running)."

Also directly through the exe file does not start work.
Here is the error message "The procedure" OpenFileById "was not in DLL" KERNEL32.dll "not found."

What am I doing wrong?

Operating system Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 3
2.71 Ghz
3.00 GB RAM
GeForce 9400 GT

Does anyone have similar problem and maybe found a solution.
I would not even download the game again, which lasts at my Lan speed is 1.5 days.

Please give me a solution :) so I can play at.

You might need the xp fix, normally the game does not work on xp

However, Windows XP is no longer officially supported.
I just read ... huh? I thought Vista is not supported by Microsoft, the manufacturer of XCOM have since turned anything?

Vista is basically the same OS as Windows 7, it will be supported for years. Windows XP has reached the end of it's lifecycle.

My OS is Windows XP SP 2 (32-bit system). I know this thing is almost obsolete, but for the moment the above fix should do the trick. Been trying to find the right time to update to Windows 7 these days. Lots of data backup lol.

This also happens to me. I've played successfully only once, immediately after a fresh download.

I've found that adjusting the volume on this laptop causes any and every program to alt-tab out to the desktop, and I suspect that adjusting volume while XCOM loads is locking some required file (the first three times I played, the girlfriend had used it and muted or turned down the volume, and I didn't think to adjust volume before starting). I'm downloading one last time to test this theory. If it doesn't work, I will have to ask for my money back so I can go out and buy a hard copy.

I have a pavillian DV7 too and the game is giving a error message and can not install the DLC.

This is the third time i'm installing the game and I'll ask for my money back if I can not access
