Game keeps crashing

I'm not sure if it's just my laptop or something else, but I can't get past the first loading screen without a crash to desktop. I've tried restarting Steam multiple times as well as reinstalling the game. When I validate files, it keeps giving me '1 file failed to validate, reacquiring" except it never seems to download anything after that. Can anyone help me out?

Intel Core i5-450M @ 2.4 GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel HD Graphics 3000
4 GB DDR3 RAM

Are you running the game as administrator? I've seen some posts on kernelbase.dll errors happening due to UAC on Windows.

Im got the same problem aswell althought im getting
faulting module kernel32.dll instead of kernelbase

I got the same issue. The demo worked fine but I got this error message when I tried to play the full game.

Fully updated Drivers here. I still get that darn Kernelbase.dll error as mention above.

I couldn't update my drivers because I am using parallel desktop running windows 7 in mac book pro. It is using a parallel display adapte. Anyone knows how to update the graphic driver in parallel desktop?

I tried the solution by removing the movie file, but still doesn't work.
