It will not work.

not so far; everything so far has worked using the "zernel" patch. I think the long war mod might be causing problems.

the original and slingshot worked fine with XP, if you used the zernel patch posted in the main EU thread. Still working on EW...

This is the link to the zernel xp workaround.

I have used this and it is running fine on my XP machine (so far). The executables that need to be modified for Enemy Within are different from Enemy Unknown. The new .exe files are located in -

\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\Binaries\Win32

eotwdave, what is your disc usage? mine is showing 10gb, I'm thinking the DLC hasn't downloaded yet?

Pardon me to ask for clarification, but are you saying that you are running Enemy Within smoothly (or as smooth as it can get) on XP?
evil_tox Nov 12, 2013 @ 6:05pm
have you tried same workaround for EW ? (rewriting paths etc.)

Yeas please, confirmation that EW works with zernel XP workaround?

EU worked nearly perfectly smoothly with a small patch. I had maybe one or two freezing bugs in two complete playthroughs. So he's not the only one who played EU on windows XP.

We know that EU works with little tweak, but we would like to know whenever this is the case with EW.

Nope. Tried everything. Switched all the kernels to zernels. To no avail.
paganize Nov 12, 2013 @ 8:52pm
I confirm that Enemy Within works with the zernel tweek. you have to copy the zernel & filextd files into the Enemy Within directory at \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\Binaries\Win32, then change the kernels to zernels there, also.
I'll boot to my Windows 7 OS sometime tomorrow, and see if XP runs EW as much better than Win7 did for EU.
Skritz Nov 12, 2013 @ 8:55pm
I'm going to test.
Skritz Nov 12, 2013 @ 9:00pm
Doesn't work unless I did something wrong.
