Not quite as good as something like Evil Genius, but it's the same concept. Not bad for $2.50.

[edit] My big problem with the game is that you need to continuosly tear up the base around you to gather resources and there's no way to neatly fix the damage as far as I can tell. 99% of the fun in a game like EG is base design and traps. Well, it's kinda hard to do that when every level just turns into a giant mess eventually.

Also, in order for traps to be fun, you need a steady supply of bad guys that take a predictable route based on your base design. In this game, you just hit pockets of bad guys while digging, you teleport your guards in, and then you move on. Traps provide no benefit with this playstyle.

microtransactions? what kind

There are little packs of items like in Sims 3. Six packs are free and the other 9 cost 0.49 cents each.

Of course Steam users are having a hissy fit about this because apparently it's some kind of sin for an indie developer who put their own savings into a game to charge an average of 29 cents for item packs developed after release.

But then again this is the same community that was threatening "legal action" last week because Dawn of Fantasy was accidently listed as $-0.01 and Steam of course wasn't going to honor that price. Keep in mind the devs are 300k in personal debt. And people wonder why the PC strategy game market is shrinking.

Most of those packages are not that necessary. I bought only Pets and Beer packages at the very begining (i bought game several months ago), the rest of packages are cosmetic only. Though, today i grabbed the rest of them - game totally worth it.

I really didn't find it fun. I had a lot more fun playing Dungeon Keeper 2, because its basically the same thing only a lot more diversity. Game of Dwarves is just so dull. I don't feel entertained or excited :-( I just keep thinking about man I really want to play Dungeon Keeper 2.

I have enjoyed it so far but it is very limiting. There is only so much you can do before boredom sets in.

you get bored of it in 10 minutes!

Personnally it reminds me a little bit of Theme Hospital (except the hospital part) ^^. A good game if you have nothing else to do.

It has a lot of potential but is not quite there yet. The setting is perfect and I like the ui but some of the design choices are terrible. You can do things that doesn't make any sense like teleporting your dwarfes anywhere you want. It does not support fotress design/building type of game play. Gameplay just waits you to dig deeper and teleport your military dwarfs to any location that the baddies appear. Doesn't really matter how you design your base and it tries to be more puzzle game than immersive which is shame. This is one of those games that on paper was great but they lost the track before the finish line.

Its looks like a pretty version of Dwarf Fortress, which is free but ugly. Kind of like how Dungeons of Dreadmoore is a pretty version of Nethack. Go for ugly and free, usually more of a challenge and theyre free. I have DoD but much prefer Nethack since it's more challenging. Did I also mention free?
