A game of dwarves honest review From a dwarf fortress player.
First off I want to say ignore what people who can't get the game to run are saying. They don't have any credibility in making any statements. I also want to say that I have experience with dwarf fortress for over four years.

Now that that's out of the way on to the review.

The first thing I want to say is that AGOD feels like that little brother to DF this isn't a bad thing in this case as it does give players a introduction to the genre without overwhelming them. I like the fact that the game is slow paced as it also gives you time to understand what you have to do.

The only thing I didn't like at first is the fact that there's one stockpile for all resources. But after playing for a bit this isn't a big deal.

If you played DF and love it I really suggest you pick this up and support the devs. While the bugs are many they make the game more challenging.

The game itself I enjoy but there's just that some thing missing to keep my mind occupied just not enough to do? Oh and pop repeating text and actual speech is so annoying.

So if someone can't even run the game even if they meet the spec they have no credibility even if the devs admit that the game has these issues. Congrats your review has no credibility.

In short yes.
If you can't get this game to work, you can call it buggy, slow etc.
But what you can't say Its gameplay sucks or that its ♥♥♥♥.
Because you didn't play the game.

And by you I don't mean you specifically but you as in someone who couldn't get game to work and gave it bad review.

Thank you, I couldn't have said it better myself.

That is a much better way of saying it. The OP sounded more insulting with no explanation or reasoning.

I was kind of in a pissy mood when I make this. Normally when I go to purchase games I come to this section to get good idea what the game is like. Or if it's multiplayer to see if anyone is playing.

Seeing people bash a game by saying it sucks just because they can't get it running irritates me to no end.

When I made this I was playing for about two hours. I knew that this is DF's little brother. Frankly this comment section isn't large enough for me to do a perfect comparision to DF. But suffice to say it's worth picking up.

I too am a huge fan of Dwarf Fortress. I quite like the genre, actually. I have since the days of the original Dungeon Keeper.

This game is not a blockbuster, but it is a really nice game. The appeal of DF is its infinite complexity and unlimited possibilities. The simulation seeks to be as /complete/ as possible, if that's a good way of describing the Tarn Adams's goals with that game. That appeals to a lot of people, me included, but turns off the vast majority of people. It's a complexity that is really the main difficulty factor in the game; just learning what you're doing.

A Game of Dwarves is in the spirit of other games, a la dungeon keeper, Startopia, etc. And Dwarf Fortress, of course; but it is more reminiscent of Dungeon Keeper in my view. It is more action oriented, more of a game than a simulation, and more about the aesthetics. The majority of what a player can do involves making things look pretty. In DF, aesthetics (while simulated) are generally left to the player's imagination.

A Game of Dwarves does what it does pretty well. There are times when I wish there was more feedback, such as a notification from your dwarf saying something like "HEY! I'M STUCK AND ABOUT TO DIE OF HUNGER HERE!". It seems awfully easy to do that and consequently kill your experienced dwarves in this game.

A Game of Dwarves is also good for kids, having less of the bloody dismemberment and demonic stuff going on. :p

This is casual all ages DF, gnomoria is adult DF with a ui that doesn't hate you. DF is for masochistic adults.

I stopped reading here because you've shown yourself to be a condescending ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ while making a statement without any credibility.

have you read the comments? he maent that they had no say whether the game was good or not, as they haven't played it. he apologized for making it sound harsh, but he did NOT mean that people who can't get it to run are worthless. quite the opposite.

couldnt agree more.. DF is for elitist nerds only...that love abhorrent ASCII graphics and a brain torturing user "interface" that even horny coulndt have constructed better (with the intention to get those screams of pain from the user)...then they could feel superior to those unwilling or unable to master such atrocities..deluding themselves from the fact that they dont have a life.
STAY AWAY FROM DF IT MAY MELT YOUR BRAIN OR WHATS LEFT OF IT.

You can install some nice tileset graphics for DF that turn the @ and !'s into cute bitmap graphics that are pretty darn awesome. Check the DF modding forums, SUPER easy to install, you can even just download the game with it already installed into a fresh folder.

I am wondering if this would be a good extension of playing Towns. Seems similar, but, not sure. Anyone played both this and Towns?
vortex_13 30 de Mar, 2013 a las 12:48
I've played both.IMO Towns is god awful terrible. This game is about average. If you have a choice go with this. Better to go with Gnomoria if you're looking for this genre though. It's in Alpha and still better polished than Game of Dwarves or Towns.
