One of my all time favorite games. Batman: Arkham City took what Arkham Asylum did good and made it a whole lot better. The one thing that Arkham City does the best is that it makes you feel like you're Batman. It does so in a variety of ways, from giving you a large arsenal of gadgets to use, making the combat feel fluid and responsive with lots of different types of attacks, having you investigate crimes by searching for clues and trying to repiece the moments in your head, and best of all, it lets you glide around the city with your wings. There's no question why this is considered one of the best licensed games next to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
The GOTY edition really does add to the game. It comes with a few extra challenge maps that are actually fun to play. They certainly are challenging and aren't just tacky add-ons to make the game longer. In fact, the main story is longer than most of todays games, coming in at around 15 hours, not including the side missions (I owned the GFWL version before the Steam version, and I have yet to complete it on Steam). With the side missions, I'd say total gameplay hours would be around 30 hours, since there are tons of extra stuff to do, not including challenge mode.
So overall, this game is worth your time. Even if you aren't a Batman fan or don't know much about his character or the world, this game is fun for everyone who enjoys third person action games.
My only complaint is that the open world can feel dead at times, with no one in the streets and nothing happening, and also how it takes a long time to travel from one area to another if you didn't unlock it already. Arkham Knight will fix this with being able to freely drive the Batmobile.
My personal rating: 9/10 - Gripping story, fluid combat, awesome graphics, and just downright fun to play.
