Tessellation On = Crash
Running Windows 8 64-bit, 8 GB installed RAM, Radeon HD 7950 3GB.
If the Tessellation feature is turned to either medium or high in the launcher, the game will crash at random scenes. Can't finish the in-game benchmark without a "program has stopped working" dialogue.
Disabling tessellation but keeping other DX11 features on will fix crashing.
Thoughts?

Win7/64 bit with the same video card and the same issue (crashes with DX11 and tessellation, turning tessellation off stops the crashes) so you're not alone. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions to help with a fix :(

Thanks for the reply. If you come across a solution please feel free to post or link it here.
Hey Lazaé! Jan 17, 2013 @ 1:17am
is your game updated to the latest version? What about your drivers, AMD profiles and such? The DX11 features wasn't developed properly for this game anyway.

Im running the game on Win8 64bit Nvidia 3GB 670m GTX . Have major slowdowns on DX11 but buttery smooth results on DX9.

Steam is set to auto-update. Catalyst Version 12.10. Stock volts/clocks on card atm. I haven't created any profiles.

Does the game run fine on DX9?

The benchmark was able to complete its pass with DX9 enabled. Averaged 58fps with V-sync. DX11 tessellation failed with and without V-sync. PhysX set to off for all attempts.

If it's happening on other DX11 games than doing a clean install of your OS might work, which I doubt you'll need to do since you are on the latest OS, unless your using drivers that are not Win8 certified.

Like I said before, DX11 was lazily implemented for this game. The DX11 renderer is pretty much broken. Just stick with DX9, the difference is very minimal, more stable and you'll get better frames.

That's all I can say for now. I'm sorry if I haven't been very helpful.

You've been very helpful. I appreciate having someone else to bounce ideas off of.

I hope the next Arkham game is built ground-up on a new engine either with PC in mind or few next-gen consoles so we can see better use of the DX11 features. I imagine it is pretty difficult to mesh DX11 into an engine optimized for the PS3 and 360.

Exactly why I created this topic. Most people seem to be able to play with DX11 features. I really have no idea why the game would behave so oddly for me, but there it is.

I'm working with a fairly recent install of Win8. To be absolutely certain it was a clean install I had run DBAN through my RAID setup. So zero drivers or settings could have been carried over from previous installations.
Hey Lazaé! Jan 19, 2013 @ 8:49am
You can try the "verify game cache" thing on steam. See if that solves anyting.

and/or why don't you try installing the dx drivers from the games folder.

\Steamapps\common\batman2\setup\DXRedist\DXSETU P.exe
\Steamapps\common\batman2\setup\vcredist_x86.exe

Try installing these then restart. it MIGHT help.

or/and You colud also try this: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1509605&mpage=1

I've tried the tips in the evga forums and I still got crashes. Performance in DX9 with the file edits is also slightly worse for me than unedited with PhysX enabled.
I'll try the game drivers and let you know what happens. Thanks for your interest.
