Team Fortress Classic
What's this in comparison to TF2?

Does anyone play it?

"Team Fortress Classic is a Valve-developed mod that was originally released with a Half Life patch. Back in the day, when men were men, women were nervous, and Medics were faster than Scouts, it ruled the FPS scene with Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, and Counter-Strike.

Now, only a handful of people play it, and most mentions of it are from Team Fortress 2 fanboys that hate it because it doesn't have WACKY ZANY STEREOTYPICAL PIXAR REJECTED CHARACTERS, item whoring and it is too difficult for them to understand."

It's a case of more servers than players (pointless ghost town servers) but there are a few Euro and a few US servers that are active.

You don't say.

QWTF was actually the first TF which was later ported over to the Goldsource engine.

It is based on the 1996 Quake game modification Team Fortress, and is itself a base for Valve's later game Team Fortress 2.

Before TFC there was Team Fortress, a 1996 QuakeWorld mod. TF's developers were working on "Team Fortress 2" as a standalone game, but later joined Valve Software and ported the original as a mod for Half-Life called Team Fortress Classic in April of 1999. Despite the company's 1998 statement that "Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms" would be released "soon", the game remained in development of one form or another for eight years and has been on Wired magazine's top ten vaporware list every year since 2001.

It doesn't take good graphics to make a good game! This game is 15 years old and few people play it, but that doesn't mean it's not fun

Yeah, I dont understand why FF is deader than TFC. TFC should have like 7-9 people and FF 14-16 or something. It supports the same things in QWTF and TFC too.

ff never really caught on

i remember watching a vid, saying that ff was made a month before tf2, so veteran playes stubbornly continued with tfc, and new guys were drawn to tf2

I don't know what one of those things has to do with the other. Veteran TFC players stuck with TFC because - generally speaking - we didn't like TF2. Or FF, for that matter. Had nothing to do with the timing of the release of either game, though...

tf2 game play is inferior to tfc gameplay.

TFC and TF2 barely have anything in common. The class names are the same thats basicly it besides little things. Only class thats really the same in both games is Engineer. They should of just named Team Fortress 2 something different. Its insulting to Team Fortress Classic. First time I played TF2 when it just came out, talk about a heartbreaking disappointment! Started TFC in 99 when it came out and played it competitively till 07. Still play it once in a while till this day. Easily put in well over 2,000 memorable hours in TFC.

The most funny thing, that even Engineer does something very different. In TFC he denies single pushes/attackers and controls the base, in tf2 he denies the whole piece of territory, It may feel the same, but that's different, Somewhat close to the TFC Engie in TF2 is Frontier Justice\Pistol\Gunslinger Engineer.
