half life
i have TFC and i will not load it just comes up with half life launcher not working. i presume this means i need to have half life to run tfc is this true?

No, that is not true. The Steam version of TFC is standalone. It will install some HL files but you do not need to own the game outright. Something else is wrong.

- Set the Windows Data Execution Prevention to be enabled just for "necessary Windows programs and services". (That's the default.)
- Have Steam verify the local files of HL and TFC.
- Make sure your graphics driver is up-to-date.

Since TFC doesn't even start, try altering the video settings through the launch options, e.g.

- Add the -nofbo launch option.
- Start TFC in a window (launch option: -window).
- As a last resort use software mode (launch option: -soft).

To add a launch option, go to the Steam library, right click on TFC, then choose properties.

try renaming steamapps file to steamapps_old and see if that works and restart steam
