after the first couple of seconds of the start of the game all I can see is the top left corner. I have entirely deleted Steam and all games then reloaded but still no go. Help!

Try windowed mode and setting a resolution through the command line options. Open Steam library, right click TFC, select properties. Then click on "set launch options". Use this:

-w 800 -h 600 -window

If it works ok, exit TFC and remove these launch options, then make your changes in TFC's video options menu. Untick "run in a window" and choose widescreen for the display mode, then choose the native resolution of your monitor, e.g. 1920 x 1080. Or you can change the launch options like this:

-w 1920 -h 1080 -full

Renderer should be OpenGL.

Disable vertical sync as it causes input lag. Though there is screen tearing when it's off, unless you have G-Sync or FreeSync.

More launch options for reference.

I accidentally clicked something in the video settings and now the screen is too big; and when I try to put it back, the options menu is too big that I can't reach the tabs. Help!
