There were ozfortress semi finals just today:

Mind that above broadcast uses custom textures (bland grey walls) and custom player models (cartoons). I suppose the commentators used these to better keep track of player movement.

There aren't many players left. Still enough to get a game, but possibly not in your region, also depending on the time of day.

There's a variety of server types, e.g.:

- Pickups with clan / league style of play
- Capture-the-flag / assault servers, some of them also clan style
- Skill servers for all kind of jump techniques (concs, rockets, pipes, bunny hopping, strafing)
- Fun servers which run different kind of maps, e.g. escape maps where you have to use team work to find a way out, hide / seek, mazes etc.

Trust me,it isn't worth it. Don't buy it. There are barely any people playing. If you're really that curious, just watch a gameplay video of it on the internet.

Only in um... the very first Team Fortress game ever (Quake Fortress)

Nope, not worth it. The gameplay is ridicolously broken, and most servers are empty or populated with bots. If you find a sevrer with people, then you will get slaughtered in gameplay.

I really don't suggest it. Mainly because you'd be lucky to find a server with about at least 5 people these days, let alone an almost full server. Another thing, especially with older games, the gameplay is broken as ****.
If you want a good, oldschool FPS that still has a good population, i suggest Counter Strike: Source.

I really wish people would stop making bs posts like this...

No the game isn't dead, yes there are still people playing, and no you wont get "slaughtered" if you join a pub game.

You complain that there aren't enough players, but when someone wants to try it you just scare them away with some made up facts. You played for 5 hours, what do you even know about this game or the supposedly 'broken gameplay' ?

So to everyone who is still wondering if its worth it, just give it a try and you may actually enjoy yourself, instead of wasting time here reading all this bs from people who never even played the game :)

totally adequate response.
If you get pass the high difficulty curve than yes, it's worth it, unlike what other people think of it.

People that don't get the game because it's dying is the reason why it's dying.

The gameplay isn't broken, that's old-school FPS's m8. Maybe you should play those first. TF2 nerfed a lot of things when it was made, the main issue TFC has is the class balance, which is means that only the Pyro is ♥♥♥♥. not recommending a game because of it's low player base is one of the main reasons why it's going to stay like that. Maybe if you do practice with those bots or play it long enough, you enjoy it. Watch how the other players play, look up scripts and configs online, Paft has an entire folder recommend for newbies like you.
