The combat in this is so bad...
I didn't know I signed up for a game called "Who can block the best while stepdancing". 90% of the combat is you blocking the enemy and 10% is you trying to make a successful attack. The enemy does this combo attack all the time and you just have to block it a long time, finally when he's done and you try to land a hit he attacks you so instead of attacking you have to block again.
The combat isn't hard it's actually really easy since you can't die because apparently Elika can just heal you infinitely. It's meaningless and time consuming and becomes boring very easily. Plus it really doesn't help when you can't move fast in a combat. It's like you're dancing but very slow.

I had to look at the metacritic and it said 82/100. Well so far in 4 hours I have only seen this horrible combat, light seed picking and the main character annoyingly trying to be funny but fails completely. I would give this game 5/10 based on what I have seen so far and that's because of the combat alone. Because so far the game is half combat and half light seed picking. I hope the game is not all about those two things.

//Edited, just to make that someone special out there both happy and angry at the same time.

Combat
+No pros at all
-It is repetitive with you mostly just blocking and the combat is always the same. Block and land attack.
-It is frustrating because instead of having any combat skills, you just have to wait for the right time to land attack
-You can't die taking the reward of "I avoided death by having good combat skills" because you don't need skills with the combat in this game

Game
+Graphics
+Acrobatics
-Combat
-The dialogue
-Unlikable characters
-Repetitiveness

The point of the game is the acrobatics, and it does it very well, in my opinion.
I admit at first I was negatively surprised about the fighting, but I've got used to it now. You just have to make as long combos as possible, and I think it's quite fun.

The point of the game is the acrobatics but that doesn't mean that half of the game has to suck.

*cough* Assassin's Creed 1's fighting mechanics were way worse. *cough*
Personally, I quite liked the boss battles. I had a primarily aerial and Elika based combo, which dealt enough damage to take out about 1/5 of the health on later bosses with ease. On average, I'd say I spent around 60% of the time attacking, and 40% defending (Those specific attack states were a pain to deal with, if you just ran into battle). It depends on the boss you're fighting, really. Some require a largely block based strategy, while others, you can go all out on your attacks.
Really, the entertainment factor in battle lies purely on the player. If you feel like battles are slow and boring, perhaps try mixing up combos a bit. The best one I could come up with was:
Elika + Elika + Jump + Elika + Elika + Glove + Jump + Elika (Keep hitting E until the enemy falls).

Addressing the point about Elika infinitely healing you: All I can say is, it's the last thing you want her to do, in battle. Every time she saves you, the boss regains health, drawing out battles longer than their intended length.

The light seed collection, I'll admit, is the low point of the game. Generally, just running though the path you took for boss battle should give you all the light seeds you need, but still, it's rather infuriating to think that they're what stands in between you and the end of the game. Though, I understand why they did that in the end.

The game does suffer from some rather unfortunate dialogue, though, which unfortunately comes from the Prince's many failed attempts at flirting with Elika. However, it gets a little bit less cringeworthy as time goes on. Stick with it, good sir! The end isn't as far away as it seems.

Yep, I've heard a lot about AC's combat system...

I already unistalled the game because everytime I went to play it I was just hoping it to be at the end of the game. I mainly play games because I want to have fun with them but this game was bothersome. I have played so many games yet I have never felt the need to uninstall them because they were so bad. Well, Still Life 2 was another.
I just hope the other Prince of Persia games are nothing like this.

Ah. Shame.

I installed Sands of Time not long ago. It's horribly buggy and unresponsive on my computer, for some reason, which ended up rendering it unplayable.

Hey, I'm not complaining about PoP '08. I actually love PoP '08 almost as much as I love AC1.

But to be fair, my favourite game of all time is Skateboard Park Tycoon 2003: World Tour, which probably shows I've not the greatest taste in games.

Yeah, because feedback is never good.

Plus, whining about "whiners"? Logic = 0.

Yeah the combat blows, the thing to know though is that you should just relentlessly try to attack with Elika. Rather than block try to parry attacks by timing the block button. Getting hit doesn't cost you anything unless you botch the QTE when you're on the ground. Try to push them off the edge or rack up a combo with Elika to take them out quicker.

I'm surprised how litttle fun the parkour elements are. I loved Sands of Time, but this game doesn't feel near as natural as that game. This game doesn't feel like there's any player input. You can take your hand off the stick completely during any extended sequence and you won't fail. That and the story and the dialogue is just brutal. I love Nolan North but this dialogue is unbearable. Who wrote it? They should have been fired. Also finished it and I didn't mind the ending. Maybe if I cared about any of it would be upset, but the game just isn't worth it. That 81 on metacritic seems 20 points too high.

I played half way through Warrior Within as well and got sick of fighting the game (it's just not meant to be played on modern computers or widescreen monitors). Parkour elements were definitely better than POP '08, but the combat is still about as bad. His baditude and the terrible metal didn't help things either. I had bought all of them during a steam sale but I have yet to try Two Thrones or Forgotten Sands. I'm really hoping those get that series back on track. At the same time I'm wandering if I should just buy Sands of Time and play that again instead.

TLDR: Combat sucks, press Y, don't worry about blocking.

Nope, you don't get to turn that around. You're still a whiner.

The combat in the game was fun and easy. Blocking is important, so... learn to block. If you have decent timing it's not a problem.

If you don't, get some decent timing.

Now gather 'round kids, for I've a tale of the relationships between two player's opinions. Some find certain aspects of certain games more weighty than others, placing their impressions of said games solely upon them. Let's say one person doesn't enjoy the combat in a game, and you do. Is their opinion incorrect? Hell no.

While I agree with takashi on the combat, they're still having a bit of a whinge about someone having a different opinion to them.

Yep. The combat was so repetitive and boring that I couldn't handle it anymore. I mean half of the game is combat so it's not good to know that the other half of the game you just have to push through no matter what. You can't avoid it.

I did turn it around because it's the truth. And let me remind you something: it is my opinion. You don't have to like it. But rather than saying "you're whiner because you said something negative" say something constructive. Because to be honest you make yourself look really bad, like one of those people who can't take any kind of criticism just because they want everyone to like something.
The game was fun to you but not to me. And I think you even failed to see my first post. I said the combat isn't hard, it's just annoying. Because it's so repetitive and boring.

Exactly. You don't have to like my opinion but at the same time don't be such a jerk about it

This game allows me to relax. Has some kind of chilled vibe to it.
