just finished the game today. I have no idea where to start to be honest.
Let’s say I was blown away; not only by the amazing level design, but the strong moral behind the game reaches far down in the back of your mind.
This game brings the true dark-side of the story of Wonderland up. Wonderland truly lives up to their motto: “We’re all mad.”
Amazing graphics, stunning level design. They weren’t lazy at ALL. Every corner, every new step reveals something new to witness. Whether it’s a teapot with eyes staring from afar or a doll hanging upside down from the ceiling and black liquid substance dripping from the orifices…
The drawings on the wall, dolls, skeletons and the overall lugubrious perspective of the game.
The artstyle is truly amazing.
Not your usual buttonsmash, but a hack and slash nonetheless. But you have a heavy attack, shield, range which you can upgrade over time by collecting Teeth…pretty much anything you need. There’s a lock-on system which is pretty nifty. The jumping can be a little tricky, but overall you’ll get used to it.
Whomever thought this felt very repetitive: I disagree. There are a few places in the game where you’d do the same thing, the same kind of puzzle, but they are all within a good “stop” in between.
I mean to say there’s a lot of platforming in between the puzzles, a lot of other things to do before doing something you’ve done before. I think it was alright, they balanced it out pretty well.
I love the story, and the level designs…all the drawings, props, traps, enemies, you really feel that these are all interpretations of Alice’s feelings; something that used to make you smile is now corrupted and is turned against you.
This little review of thought MIGHT contain slight spoilers:
Overall, the story, it being quite the deep moral. A girl having herself blamed for something she did not do, the grudge being pushed down her throat and the endless pain and depression ever soaring through her mind. She tries to justify herself, she isn’t sick; she’s in pain. But nobody who really reaches out for her, giving her what she really needs. All but her Wonderland friends…
Although they may appear threatening, or they may appear as they want to harm Alice, they’re all merely afraid of HER.
She is destroying her own beautiful mind: Wonderland. They are the creatures who roam over wonderland, and she’s her own murderer - the Infernal Train is her own invention.
And if it wasn’t enough, the doctor is ever more pushing it down her mind and blaming her.
If one only knew the darker intentions the doctor had in mind by letting these children forget their past…
They are nothing but mere numbers. They are but the mortal bodies that walk on the earth, all forgetting their “unproductive” memories.
She’s not just being tortured by herself, but others around her, who suffer the same pain, have a huge influence on her as well.
10/10 from me. It’s a damn masterpiece.
