Ambient Occlusion bug with c_shogun_warbanner
When ambient occlusion is enabled, one side of the c_shotgun_warbanner flag turns almost completely black. The other side is fine. Are there any solutions to this aside from not using AO?

Can you do a small test render to ensure that it's not just only in the viewport? (the AO in the viewport is always pretty crappy)

Oh boy, they used nocull to render the other side of the banner... Hello lighting problems...

Anyway, if you still want to use AO, you can simply disable it locally on the banner by opening its material file (Steam/SteamApps/common/SourceFilmmaker/game/tf/materials/models/weapons/c_items/c_shogun_warbanner.vmt) in notepad, and adding this command line somewhere in it:
"$ambientocclusion" "0"
Otherwise though, all one could do to make AO work on the warbanner is edit it in a 3D editing program to have two separate sets of polygons for both sides, instead of noculling one of them.
(What was the modeller that made that item thinking anyway??)

Thanks so much R234. Yes this was affecting final renders, so it was a pretty big deal to have one of my props look terrible.
