Trouble Painting Flamboyant Flamenco
I decided to make an SFM poster of my TF2 Pyro loadout. The thing is, my Flamboyant Flamenco is painted Australium Gold, and it appears that the hat does not like paint in SFM. At first I tried the hat proxy. The hat turned black as it was supposed to, but the colour turns back to red when I try painting it. I used this spreadsheet to get the correct values for Australium Gold. After that failed, i tried editing the .VMT file, but that had no affect at all. So what am I doing wrong?

Sorry Sarchasm, I've searched everywhere for a RGB or Hex color to Scalar converter but come up with nothing. If any consulsation the RGB number for the Austrailium Gold is 231 181 59 and the Hex is #e7b53b My colour chart found in R234 model guide (here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=122763613#-1) has the same scalar colour number you used. I may have got that number from the same chart you used while I was building mine because I could not find a converter then either.

See, I don't think it's the values themselves thats causing the problem. According to the guide where I found the hat proxy, putting "0.5 0.5 0.5" in the $colortint_base field should result in a flat grey. It turns red just like the other values.

Ok, I was going to load the Flamingo and have a look but found SFM giving me a problem. I'm in the middle of a validation. Give me about an hour and I'll have a look as soon as I get SFM back.

Ok, got it... http://i.imgur.com/7cAzYta.png

Same problem as with the Tough Guy Toque. The VTF has to be edited. The SFM shaders don't work the same as the in-game shaders. Go to the Tough Guy Toque portion of this guide, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=153130138#96271
watch the video and follow the same steps. (Basically its open the vtf in GIMP or Photoshop and change the RED area to white and save the new VTF to usermod\materials\models\player\items\pyro but a little more involved than that because the vtf is a layer with a masking layer. The main layer has the red in it. The guide shows how to fix it.)

Thank you! I'm about to log off for the night, so I'll try this tomorrow and report back.

It worked great! I had to download a plugin for gimp to open the file, but it worked perfectly! Thanks!
