Still couldnt get the darned thing to run . Finally checked to see if file was even present and it wasnt.. Not sure where to get this file and/or if I even want to Dl it from the net.
Commedit.dll, pet.dll and vmt.dll
Check to see if this fold exists and that the other 3 are there...
Also what are the dates on the other 3?
Dates are all today's date 8/20/13
Another thing, (you may have already tried this) Launch Steam as an administrator
sounds stupid I know, but have to ask.
Wait!!! no I'm not... Check the file ref in the topic heading... imf.dll Then he changed it... DOH!!!
And I should have said the "ifm.dll" is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin\tools folder with the other 3.
If it is there, then you are having a load problem.
Close Steam, REBOOT your computer, and try again.
(Man I just search over 554,958 files in my steam folders looking for IFM.DLL thinking mine was IMF.DLL, rooted through about 20 .lst, .txt and .dic files line by line looking for a ref to ifm.dll to try and find where it was hidden, only to find that I was staring at all a long. It wasn't until I got the 11,284 dlls segregated that I found that I had already found it the first time. What a maccaroon I am!!! )
I have 1 other trick to try if that doesn't work.
any ways i have tried rebooting/integrity check's/reinstall/steam reinstall/open as admin.
kinda wondering if its not becuase I just installed this OS and I only got the upgrades I needed. So maybe I am missing some visual c++ or something like that. I will try this today and see if it fixes the issue. I really apreciate you takin the time to try and help me out. +rep
Try that if you dare, but the other trick I was referring to is to opt into the Steam Client Beta program, this will download a newer version of your client and reset the config file.
To do this, launch Steam. In the Menu options Goto Steam/Settings. On the accounts tab, in the Beta Participation section click Change. Change None - Opt Out to Steam Beta Participation. Click OK. Close the client and Reboot (Reboot isn't really necessary, just a practice I got into when I install, update or change a program configuration), Load Steam (if it isn't set to start when Windows opens) and wait for it to update. When it's loaded try SFM again. If SFM starts or if it doesn't, you can go back and opt out again, close everything, reboot and try SFM again. At least you'll know that it's not the client causing the problem and will have the most up-to-date version of it.
