FPS drop with manipulator on screen.
I'm having an issue where my FPS will drop substantially if I have the manipulators on screen. from a steady 40+ FPS, to around 8-9. Making animating impossible.
It only happens if I'm in the graph editor, or the motion editor with a manipulator within frame.

Any ideas?

Common problem, Turn off your progressive refinement while editing (the scene wont have to render eack movement.) Turn it back on before rendering. This may help your situation.

Doesn't help.
I've never had this problem before.
It has worked fine before.

Also, if I have the manipulator on screen then switch to gamemode, then I still have low framerate.
If I turn the manipulator off, then gamemode again, it's totally fine.

Well depending on how many bones you select at once, this can happen. Even on my beast of a system things can slow down like crazy if I'm manipulating all the bones on a model at once. I'm curious, does this happen with static props as well as character models? If it does then my theory is basically blown.

I tried with a static crate model, and the problem still persists.
It seems to be that white square or any main element of a manipulator tool that causes the drops.

For the record, I tried to downgrade to an earlier version of SFM. It didn't work.

Hey there, Had the same problem, i wasn't able to fix it, but i found a workaround. For me using the secondary viewport instead of the primary viewport completely removed the lag. Good luck!

Turning off lighting can help a whole lot, actually.

Sorry for the delay people, I found out that the map itself was causing the issue. Not sure why. It wasn't a custom even. Just bugged out.

Worked for about an hour or two, now its back on both.

Hello Tonic, I tried several maps but it didn't resolve my issue. I'm still searching around, very annoying problem.

Well pal, as I said, I don't know the reason it got fixed. It was just an odd occurrence with one map.

I think i finally found out the problem. I have a shot that is very long (15 minutes). If the selection range in the motion editor is too large, and the manipulator on screen, then it will lag. I only need to reduce my motion range and everything is perfect :).

Haha, a shot for 15 minutes definitely is a way to lag your SFM.
