These are the two that I found to be the most useful:

for models/maps/animations/particles = http://sfmbox.com/
for models/maps = http://www.garrysmod.org/

I would start looking around http://sfmbox.com/ for what you need first because that site is specifically for SFM. http://www.garrysmod.org/ is for garrysmod, but everything should work (I believe) for SFM if you need it to.

Garrysmod is probably still the biggest resource right now, but you have to own the game to download stuff. Totally worth it if you don't already own it imo. I got tons of stuff from there.

Really interesting. I never knew that a Garry's Mod site would hold items that works with SFM. I do in fact have Garry's Mod, and I've been using garrysmod.org for a long time, I've recently given up on Garry’s Mod as I can't make worthwhile movies in that program. When I stumbled upon this, I was overjoyed. Thank you for the SFM box website, I have checked it out, and found some really usefull items there.

One question I have is: What are the particels and how do I use them? Are they like the special effects like the explosions or such?

Yeah, they are special effects. bullet tracers, energy beams, dust, smoke, you name it.

another place to check is Deviantart. there are a fair number of modellers who post their stuff there. just search for sfm DL, sfm model, gmod DL or gmod model. or possibly other variants.

Oh wow. I never thought Deviantart whould have Source Filmmaker contect, I'll have to check that! Also, interesting story on the particles. How would I go about using them in Source Filmmaker?

Another resource for models (but scan heavily) is gamebanana.com.

One thing everyone forgets about the custom content is that most of it (on sites like gmod and gamebanana) is that these models were originally designed as player models, models that replaced in game models. They have the same effect in SFM, some will still replace thehl and tf player models when place in SFM and they work right. Most commonly affected are the scout and the sniper models.

there just happened to be a bunch of fans there who were also modelers. luck of the draw really. Not all ponies there. there is alot of other stuff as well, even among pony artists,

Interesting. I think I'll skip on the gamebanada site, just ot be on the safe side, thanks for the idea though! I usually scan every thing I download even if I know it's from a trusted site. It's just the way I am, and it never hurts.

Actually, most (if not all) of the models I've grabs from there have been fine. There is just a higher risk for bugs because the site is so open, and I'm not sure if their server actually scans for unexpected add-ins to the packs uploaded.
