Outback Intellectual funny issue applying paint - Help me please D:
Hi dear steam community fellas :)
I would like (if possible) some help from a wise SFM guy, cause I can't nail this :o

This is the issue: Whenever I try to paint the outback intellectual it seems that any colour I choose has to be combined with blu (or red depending on the skin of the item), so if I apply white I get light blue / light red, if I apply "pink as hell" I get "purplish as hell" and so on, check for yourselves :)

This should be pink as hell: http://gyazo.com/8ed6f6f887a00d9aa0174ef019da1533
(1 0.4118 0.7059)

This should be white: http://gyazo.com/818a8f7d9a8fe64897862b1a92bb6059
(1 1 1)

With pure black the issue is not that bad: http://gyazo.com/ba66c2772b8a37d433204e13973b644d
(0 0 0)

But with any light colours it sucks not being able to paint the item.

Any help will be highly appreciated, I want to paint the item white.

(I know how to paint items, change styles, rgb values etc, this issue is not that noobish :P)

Looking at the VTFs it seems they're not set up to be paintable, which is odd considering TF2's version of the item IS paintable... Perhaps try getting them from TF2 with GCFscape?

Hi there, first of all thanks for you taking time to answer to this :)
Following your advise I tried to (by extracting the files with GCFscape):
Isolate the outback intellectual in another folder
Replacing the Outback Intellectual files directly in the SFM folder "tf"

So far I have the same results :(

Oh, then that's what the texture is supposed to look like? Interesting... I thought it had to be white around where the paint can be applied...

Which method of painting the item do you use, by the way? There's more than one as far as I know.

I use the one with the hat proxy: http://youtu.be/EFEFuqSjSDw

Oh and I kinda... nailed it =/ I edited the VTF file, basically it was a brute force attack, I'm not too savvy with all these valve / modding related things.
What I did to solve it was erase the background in photoshop, within the vtf file, some colourse show up with a nasty gray thick line in the middle, but the one I wanted (white) shows up just fine :).
Also the default colour of the bloody sweater finally showed up quite fine (it's some sort of yellow) whereas before it was bluish or reddish.
All this by modifying the vtw file and replacing it in the tf folder :) kinda fixed it for vale xD

I know it was nasty and brute but it worked, still I'd like to know if there is a more "formal" way to solve it

Check my first SFM screenshot :D

That's not quite what I meant, I know the default colour for the paintable areas is the team's "cream" colour. I meant an item's actual texture file usually has white paintable areas, and then the game sets them to the appropriate colour. On the Outback Intellectual's texture file however, they're very dark red or blue, which seems to be what caused your issue. If making the paintable areas white is what you did, then you've done exactly what I was about to suggest you'd do.

Oh my bad :P sry :(
I didn't know that an actual paintable item had the paintable areas in white, and that you could also see those, but yeah the outback intelectual texture file has those areas in dark red/blue, which yeah I think it's what "combined" with the applied desired colours, and thanks for the suggestion and your time mate.

Funny enought the file is exactly the one used in game =/
Couldn't tell what the bloody hell is going on there, in game the item looks just fine. The screenshot I linked to is actually my current in-game loadout, but it doesn't look like in the first screenshots that showed the issue =/.

Only Gabe knows... :P

Thanks for all your help mate :)
