Hi there, first of all thanks for you taking time to answer to this :)
Following your advise I tried to (by extracting the files with GCFscape):
Isolate the outback intellectual in another folder
Replacing the Outback Intellectual files directly in the SFM folder "tf"
So far I have the same results :(
Which method of painting the item do you use, by the way? There's more than one as far as I know.
No :( The texture is supposed to like like this: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Outback_Intellectual
I use the one with the hat proxy: http://youtu.be/EFEFuqSjSDw
Oh and I kinda... nailed it =/ I edited the VTF file, basically it was a brute force attack, I'm not too savvy with all these valve / modding related things.
What I did to solve it was erase the background in photoshop, within the vtf file, some colourse show up with a nasty gray thick line in the middle, but the one I wanted (white) shows up just fine :).
Also the default colour of the bloody sweater finally showed up quite fine (it's some sort of yellow) whereas before it was bluish or reddish.
All this by modifying the vtw file and replacing it in the tf folder :) kinda fixed it for vale xD
I know it was nasty and brute but it worked, still I'd like to know if there is a more "formal" way to solve it
Check my first SFM screenshot :D

Oh my bad :P sry :(
I didn't know that an actual paintable item had the paintable areas in white, and that you could also see those, but yeah the outback intelectual texture file has those areas in dark red/blue, which yeah I think it's what "combined" with the applied desired colours, and thanks for the suggestion and your time mate.
Funny enought the file is exactly the one used in game =/
Couldn't tell what the bloody hell is going on there, in game the item looks just fine. The screenshot I linked to is actually my current in-game loadout, but it doesn't look like in the first screenshots that showed the issue =/.
Only Gabe knows... :P
Thanks for all your help mate :)
