Having a little trouble coloring the Deadliest Duckling in SFM
I have no problems with coloring the first skin of the misc in SFM, but apparently it doesn't apply to other skins either. I've tried editing the vmt files for the other skins but they don't seem to work. Maybe I'm not putting the right rgb values in the right places. The vmt file I'm trying to edit to color is hm_duck_blue.vmt. I've also found using a hat coloring script doesn't work in this case either.

http://puu.sh/2SoPm.jpg Here's a screenshot if this helps any. It simply won't color.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

There is an official RGB color list at the end of this guide... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=122763613

I have not had much luck painting multi-paint skins, but this may give you an idea where to look...

The value you need to change is:
"$colortint_base" "{239 161 79}"

However, you also need to change:
"$colortint_tmp" "[1 1 1]"
...to:
"$colortint_tmp" "[0 0 0]"

...otherwise they'll stay white whatever you do.

It works! Thank you. I hate how coloring is so finicky in SFM. Thanks again.

Could this also be applied to other miscs or hats if I have similar problems?

Possibly... Thing is, for every broken item I seem to run into a different problem, which is fixed by editing/removing/adding a different line of code. One could wonder if it really is the same engine SFM and TF2 were built upon ;)

Well, I'm still pretty new to SFM. But one would wonder now huh?

@R234,

Probably the same engine, just an earilier or an experimental version. As TF2 developes they don't update the SFM version unless they require it to video a newer added feature. (ie Probably a major update to SFM engine on release of MvM so they could capitalize on that, but you notice how Pyroland isn't available, not really a major update. In order to do the video they short circuited SFM and tricked SFM into producing the short (a new feature but not a major update like MvM.)) However, there a lot of bells, whistle and sliders buried in the setting that no one knows what they are for or how to use them.

But then again... who know where this FREE tool will go?? For now, the only profit they are seeing from it is what, the stuff uploaded to the TF2 Workshop now. TF2 is free to play and SFM is a free tool and the SFM workshop is a free resource of models. Not much profit in SFM therefore not much of a reason to update it very often, I would think.

As for the troublesome models, I hear you there. Some of my vfts are so buggerized that even I don't know what is happening in them anymore... lol. I have tried setting the $colortint_temp to 0 0 0 before, but it didn't seem to do anything. I'll give it another try.

Thanks

I changed everything that R234 mentioned. (I'm using jul13_madmans_mop.mdl) It was entirely black when I first tried to paint it, but now only the sideburns changed in color. http://i.imgur.com/SHYMo36.jpg
