Is it possible to make things darker? I know in Maya you can add negitive values to some lights and they will essentially become black holes for light, but so far with SFM all I've seen is how to make more light not less. It makes it harder to set up a moody scene when you have to search for a dark map.

Unless you can get your hands on a darker version of your map, or make it yourself in Hammer, your best bet is to lower the tonemapscape value on your active camera. That's not a perfect solution though, especially if you have unlit textures in your scene (most particles are unlit). That means their brightness will downscale with tonemapscale, and won't be affected by lights, which means blood, fire, etc. etc. might look too dark.

Your mention of negative "black hole" lights made me try something, and by golly IT WORKS!

After adding a light, if you select its animation set and right click the "intensity" slider, there's an option to "remap slider range". make the minimum value -1000, and you get a light that can be negative!

Oh, have you lowered the ShadowAtten slider? When it's maxed out a lot of light (or, in this case, darkness) shows through the models.

Ha! I'm smarter than I thought.

I tried it out and yes, if you create a light and remap it's intensity slider to something like -1000.00, it will make things darker. Very cool.

The downside is that all shadows are sort of lit, like a rim light. However I think with some tweaking this could work quite well.

or just double-click on the intensity slider so it shows a number and just put a minus sign "-" infront of a number you type in.
