This is usually hardware related. What are your specs?

4gb of ram
64-bit operating system
Windows 8

Run dxdiag, what is your Display Device, manufacturer, chip type, Total memory and Display driver Versions?

Intel Corporation
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Total Memory: 1664MB
Main Driver: igdumd64.dll,idg10umd64.dll,igd10um and the rest cuts off

It may also be that Windows 8 is so new that SFM thinks the OS doesn't meet the required OS. This is just a shot-in-the-dark guess, does SFM appear to run pretty well for you?

Your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements to run SFM. Technically it can work, but it won't be pretty. You'll be missing some graphics features and more than likely your gamma will be messed up.

Yes, you need a dedicated graphics card in order for it to work properly. Not onboard graphics. You'll need a laptop with an ATi/NVidia GPU or a desktop.

ok then, thx

First problem. Windows 8. They don't support "unsigned" software's dedication for GPUs. Windows 8 is terrible, we all know this. Integrated Intel Graphics. Dead. I'm sorry, but you're looking for loads of trouble in the future with your setup.

I run SFM on my laptop under Win8 without problems, my chipset however is AMD Radeon, not Nvidia. It could be a problem with the registry, a problem with Graphics Drivers or a number of other things. I would sugeest that now that you have SFM installed that you uninstall and reinstall Direct X.

Three things SFM doesn't like very much. Windows 8, laptops, and Intel. having any of those can be problematic at times regardless of system specs. having all three? Be glad SFM doesn't just give you the finger and say I'm not downloading on THAT.

Actually laptops aren't the problem. It's the hardware IN the laptop that can make the difference. I run SFM on my desktop and laptop without any issues. I'm not using Windows 8 though, so that could be a possible issue.
