If you open a .mdl file with a text editor you will find the first line starts IDST. On that same line you will the model name with a path relative to the model folder. For example IDST0nul nul nul t3 player/demo/demo.mdl. This means the model belongs in the {modname}/models/player/demo/ folder. This is a good way to determine where a model belongs if it is invisible in the model viewer.
