Source Filmmaker

White viewport
Right, so this is an issue I cannot find an answer for in a long time of searching for one.

I'm having the exact same issue as reported in this two year old topic. No fix has been given, and I can't find assistance anywhere else. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2925730

To recap:
- Source Filmmaker loads without issue, and I can load any Meet the X video without any problems. However, the viewport is completely white, and nothing seems to fix it (See image 1) including attempting to move the camera and turning various visual options on and off.

- Additionally, the .bsp loading menu that appears when I attempt to load a map is also completely white, save for the Open and Cancel buttons (See Image 2).

- Oddly enough, not only can I hear the sounds of the movie when I attempt to play it, I can also use the Game Mode (F11) without any issues (See Image 3).

I'm rather desperate for an answer. This issue is more than two years old and I can't find any answers. Without them, I cannot use Source Filmmaker. Do let me know if you have a fix, and thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention it: I use an AMD graphics card, all my drivers are updated and I have both reinstalled SFM multiple times and verified game integrity multiple times. I run any source engine games without problems.

Man, I thought I was the only one getting this! XD The only fix I ever found was to just close sfm and open it again, even though it takes 45 minutes for it to open on my computer... usually that works, and things can be seen again. But hopefully there will be a proper fix someday!

Every once in a while, I will have this happen, as Scurvy reports, just closing and reopening SFM usually fixes the problem.

What version of AMD card do you have, is this a laptop and what are your computer specs?

The reason I ask, is if it is a laptop are you loading the mobility or desktop vid drivers?

I'm afraid closing and reopening SFM doesn't fix the issue, unfortunately.

I'm not using a laptop.

My relevant specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 965
8,00GB of RAM
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

Little bit higher spec that mine, you should be fine.

I wonder if deleting the \SteamApps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\platform\config\ingamedialogconfig.vdf might help.

Try that, it won't hurt anything if it doesn't.

Deleting the file did not work, unfortunately.
Pte Jack Oct 29, 2014 @ 7:53am
and you've validated the cache?
Germz Oct 29, 2014 @ 7:54am
Yes, though I'll give it another shot.

EDIT: All files validated, white viewport is still present.

WHOA, that was quick, it usually takes like an hour and a half for the validation to run on my machine
Germz Oct 29, 2014 @ 9:00am
Honestly, I was surprised too! Verification was done near-instantly.
Curious, I tried again, and steam had to redownload 29 files.

Viewport is still white, though. The issue remains present.

If SFM is validating that quickly then something is definately wrong... Do you have the DLC turned off and have you manually deleted files from SFM?
Germz Oct 29, 2014 @ 5:10pm
All DLC is turned off, I am not opting in any betas and except for the file you mentioned I have not tampered with any other files.

The second time validating (when it had to redownload 29 files) was not instant. I failed to clear that up, apologies.

Do you happen to have SFM installed on a drive other than C: and if yes, did you set that path up as an extended library area using the steam client?
Germz Oct 30, 2014 @ 5:23am
Yes, I have; and yes, I did. Steam suddenly making the switch to a different install folder already broke a few of my games, annoyingly, and I already had to work on an extended library.

For that matter, I've already installed SFM into the new folder, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I would say it's time to bite the bullet and completely uninstall SFM. There is definately something broken somewhere. Move your custom assets, projects and renders before dointg the uninstall. Uninstall using the Delete local content button in the client, then check to see if there is anything left over after the uninstall and get rid of it. Reinstall.... If your viewports are still white after the reinstall, then there is something happening with your vid card. Check the AMD Catalyst settings.
