Coloring Particles with no Vector
So I'm trying to mess with the burning effects to see what other colors would look good such as the bright purple from the Poisoned Shadow effect.

I added the Burning Particle System, instanced it so I could mess with it and started looking for color settings. I found them and started changed them to purplish colors. What I got was not Purplish...

I know to change Killstreak Effect colors, you remove the "Remap Control Point to Vector" under Initializers (thanks to R234 for that tip!). Unfortunately, neither the Burning nor Scorching effects seem to have this variable.

I changed the main Color, the color fade and the two color randoms and the picture above is closest I could get. I searched the particle file extensively, but I'm completely stumped.

After some adjusting, it looks like some of the color the colors are being tinted, but I'm not positive. When I have a dark purple selected, I get a dark pink. Yet when I select a full dark red, I get a full dark red.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the actual VMT to see if the colours are affected by it?
The problem here comes from the fact that the fire texture itself isn't greyscale, it's yellow. Trying to colour an already coloured texture doesn't look right.

To fix this, change the material (in the particle system's definitions, once it's instanced) from "particle\flamethrowerfire\flamethrowerfire102.vmt", to the greyscale version, "particle\flamethrowerfire\flamethrowerfire102_gray.vmt".
