Need some help with music for an SFM Video
Hello ! So, I've recently been making an SFM video and I wanted to know two things

How would I add music to my video. I mean in terms of copyright etc. Are we free to use Valve Music in any SFM Videos ? If not then how would I be able to use it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzjKUaBqpEw <---- This is a trailer/work in progress of it.

Does anyone have a suggestion for music that would look good with that ?

I can't seem to figure out music. Would I be allowed to use third party music if I just stated "Music by ......" or do I have to go all the way to the holder and get their permission. Please, someone explain :P

Valve allow use of their copyrighted material for non-commercial purposes, which includes Youtube videos, monetized or not.

If you do want to use a copyrighted piece of work, say a popular band's hit single, you would need to contact their labeling company and so on.
But if you want some free, royalty free music head on over here:

Not much a wide selection though.....

Kevin MacLeod gives out a lot of free-to-use music. You may have heard a number of his tracks among various flash / SFM videos you've watched.

Valve won't sue anyone, but after the more recent upstarting on YouTube over music usage, it's good to be concerned.

You can use copyrighted music... it's just that then you typically need to acknowledge that it doesn't belong to you in your youtube account then the record company with the ownership rights puts ads on your video so they can make money off it.

After you upload your video, Youtube's automatic content scanning thing will recognise you're using something copyrighted and will ask you to "acknowledge 3rd party content". Sometimes this is not the case though as some bands do not allow this option (ex. Metallica) and your video will simply be removed.
