Source Filmmaker

Source Filmmaker

After 3 days, SFM have finished downloading!
I dunno if this qualifies as a new discussion. But, I'm just saying that I have SFM after 3 long days!

So anyways, time to look for a good tutorial. I look at the GUI of SFM and like, "This ain't no 3D Max from early 2000."

SFM is not a 3D editor, never was and never will be. It's as the name implies, a film maker. It allows you to take Valve formatted models and manipulate them in a 3D enviroment and create video clips. It has the power to render short clips or stingers to actual full length movies, depending on how much time one decides to put into a project.

The filmmaker is in beta status and is released to the public

Valve has prepared a series of tuts, here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2B46DEB4157E67C4 , to assist in the learning curve. There are a lot of undocumented features that are being discovered by the community and there are a ton of youtube channels that offer tuts ranging from beginner to advanced user levels, you just have to look for them.

It has a steep learning curve and can be computer resource heavy.

There are a multitude of model sources and a workshop that contains a lot of assets you can use in the program.

The more apt term would be Machinima creator.
Thanks for the link. Should get me started.

Grrr, more things to download. Downloading entire playlist now...

In any case, it can do these:

BTW, how did they made the SFM pony models then? That is, if you have any idea.

Thanks. I'd like to private message the guy.
I thought you would just link him to one of the 900 answers you've already posted on this subject... The reason I passed it to you is that you probably know which of your posts is the best answer for the most current pack... lol

What? I don't understand. 900 answers I already posted on the subject? What 900 answers I already posted?

UPDATE: Dear God! That raptorn above who was the second to reply after you? Sheesh! Sorry man. Ok. Yeah, should have known him having an Apple-Raptor avatar.

Dohhhh, my bad... I thought it was Raptorn that had posted the message that he want to PM you... I need to RTFSN (Read The Flipping Sender Name) better... I been spending Way TOOOOO many late nights at this lately. Sorry Streaks...
Oh, BTW, not sure if I mentioned that the Tutorial files for those Valve sessions are located on your harddrive. You can find them in your SourceFilmmaker\game\tf_movies\elements\sessions\tutorials folder. You can load them up in SFM and work with the video at the same time and at your own rate.

Say what? K, checking them now.

UPDATE: Found them, played the first file. Whew! I thought I was downloading the YouTube tutorials for nothing. The .dmx tutorial files do not have the guy (Bay Rate?) teaching unlike the tutorials in YouTube.

Honestly though, I want this guy to add me. Already sent him an invite. There's nothing like learning.
I was asleep, Lol. As for how they were made. a bunch of people over the course of several years. kpshadowsquirrel made the original 3d models for fun. oogaboogaman took those and ported them to source for use in Gmod. Nahka took those and redid them. upped the poly count, gave new flexes, added jigglebones, etc.

Currently nahka is working on a 5th version for use in the Fallout Equestria game. Those though will be exclusive to that game, at least until it comes out in a couple years.

Here is an image of the main character, Littlepip, using the new model.

compared to the most recent source model.

Oooh, he's got a pipboy.

Nice.

I'd like to play FO3 again, except that I can't get this mod to work: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/15653/?

Haha, I find it kinda funny that some of the more knowledgable / tutorial-creating SFM users are brony artists; Raptor's already shown up in some of my tutorial searches. So now, anyone devoted to learning SFM has to be the type that won't psychotically gouge their own eyes out upon seeing anything candy-colored.

Here's hoping Fallout Equestria doesn't get a dumb cease and desist.
