SFM for large scale custom environments and models?
I'm interested in using SFM for an animated short that I'm working on, since I really like the lighting and general aesthetic the Source engine uses. However, I'd want to use mostly custom models as the setting of the movie is fairly different from any of Valve's properties, and requires a fairly large scale environment for vista shots, canyon and desert environments, etc. I've already created and rigged most of the models in Blender. Will I be able to use SFM for large scale shots or is it meant for smaller scale scenes? It's not the Lord of the Rings, but I do want certain shots to have a sense of scale. Also, is it viable to work almost exclusively with custom models? Thanks. :facepunch:

depends on how large. sfm has a limit to it's map size.

if you want to find if it can do what you want. grab a map called supermassive flatgrass from gmod. it is, i believe, the largest map going to the limits of what sfm can handle. if you find that big enough then you should be good.

also keep in mind you have the option of 3d skyboxes to extend your range a bit further.
